Confilcts:
Vista vs XP- I would like to have DX10 for newer games but does it still support old ones?
video card- either the 8800 GTS 640 MB card or 2 8800 GT 512MB cards although I heard the GT runs hot
RAM- corsairs and Ballistix are the same size but I think Ballistix are faster
any ideas on what I should go with or if you can come up with something either being a combo of diff parts from those 3 ideas above or your own idea (although i need you to explain what the difference is between what I chose and what you chose)
and remember $2150 max

I have 2 of the EVGA 8800gt's and I haven't had any problem with them running hot. And yes vista supports all the games XP does...it's the way to go. There are alot of naysayers but if you have a good rig you won't have any problems. I have it running on both of my pc's and it runs just fine. Also I don't think the intel based boards will run SLI. If your case has an open side to see into go for crucial ballistics tracers...they just look cool...hahaha. Micron makes the chips for almost all of those high end models anyway, so go with crucial I have had great luck with them and they overclock very well.
thanks for the input I'll check out the SLI stuff and change accordingly

You might want to check out the 8800 GTS 512 with the (G92) chipset. These cards actually beat the GTX and Ultra in many areas and are a better price.

ASUS P5N-D 750I SLI LGA775 ATX DDR2 2PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 2PCI 1394A GBLAN

only problem is no mobo supports both SLI and 1066 RAM so I will need 800's

I found out that my mobo does not support SLI so I found one that does
ASUS P5N-D 750I SLI LGA775 ATX DDR2 2PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 2PCI 1394A GBLAN
Motherboard
only problem is no mobo supports both SLI and 1066 RAM so I will need 800's
Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X2048-6400C4 2GB 2X1GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800 CL 4-4-4-12
240PIN Dual Channel Memory
or
Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X2048-6400 2GB 2X1GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800 CL 5-5-5-18 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory
My Asus Striker 2 Formula mobo supports SLI and 1066 RAM. So you could stilll get 1066's and a nice mobo. I have Corsair CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500).

If you are going to use that PSU, get a full tower case. I have that PSU, and it is a good size. A full tower will also be much easier to build, and will give you much better cooling. I don't know if you will have enough room to house 2 8800GTs in a mid tower.

If you can fit one in there, then you can fit two.
The last two video cards I've bought said they they where a tight fit in a mid-tower, but neither of them where no longer then my ATX mobo. Look at the length of the mobo you want and the length of the video card you want and compare them, that would be the best way to know if they will fit. One other thing to look at is the slots and what's on the other side of them, I've seen some boards where there is a south bridge heatsink right on the other side of the second PCI-e X16 slot making SLI/Crossfire impossible without removing it.

2. the video card, i would get 1 good one than 2 midranges for SLI or crossfire. I would suggest just one nvidia 8800 GTS 512 mb which can handle most of the games and doesnt really need alot of power for expensive powersupply
3. in few weeks the new intel quadrocores should be out, intel q9450 will be almost the same price as your cpu and it will rule 300 times better, that CPU will also do the dishes and vacuum the carpet and cook the dinner itself and...etc, should wait for new quadrocores. if you dont want quadrocore, than get e8500, its new dualcore and has ~15% better performance per clock than e6850, and it overclocks better. just for gaming you would be fine with dualcore, but if your into CAD and rendering or multitasking go quadrocore. I dont know, my philosophy is that if your gona put $2k on that machine, you want more from it than just gaming toy and quadrocores are not that much expensive. the new games that are coming out are being designed based on multithreading and in future it will make difference how many cores you have. for BF2 or BF2142 games, intel e6850 works fine.

This is another config, with only 1 stronger video card(although its beefed up in size along with power.) no sound card (I can handle using a on board) different monitor (viewsonic has done wonderfully for me since I've had my current pc.) I also got a stronger processor which was only 5 bucks more basically.seagate HD because my computer lab teacher said it would be a better choice, and it does happen to be cheaper than the Western digital. It also happens to be a few bucks under my max price so it seems like a good setup.(I did calculate taxes and such so.
