They don't have any Atari cpus? Or what about these really neat-o Dorito chips I keep hearing about?

Either or now-a-days its mostly user preference as to what cpu, performance wise they are about equal.

I like AMD myself. Maybe for no other reason than I have them in all my PC's 'cause they were cheaper. In the past the AMD's were usually faster too.

I use this site to compare:

http://www23.tomshar...m...1&chart=419

The Intel looks faster, but I could only find the 6000 for AMD.

intel all the way

that intel is faster, and it overclocks much better, in general it is better CPU, the AMD 6400 is overclocked 6000 and it doesnt come with heatsink, in BF2142 you will probably get 20% more from intel without any overclock on it, and you can OC it and take it up to 4 gigs with good cooling.
thing is that what CPU u choose will dictate what motherboard your getting and other things which for intel are little more expensive (but much better), both of them will perform really good with current battlefield games and you wont notice difference, with better I mean 200fps vs 170fps where your eye cant tell the difference above 60-70 fps.

So far the new Intel Core 2 Duos can't be beat. And Intel has a lot of stuff lined up for the future. AMD is okay, but they are definitely lagging a bit right now. I'd go with Intel, without a doubt.

I recently just upgraded to an E6750 CPU... fastest thing I've ever had. Overclocks like a champ as well. Stock 2.66 to 3.4 Easy with good ram and mobo.

Thats probably one of the best motherboards available right now. With it you can use the corsair xms series ram and overclock it to I believe 1366mhz. With a good intel core 2 duo you will have one kick ass setup. Very overclockable.

I run AMD all the way. Cheaper, and just as good as Intel.

I've got a AMD Athlon 64, dual-core socket 939 2.2Ghz CPU that rocks. I don't like to overclock processors, so the one I use is STANDARD, and it's a real workhorse.

I guess it's like the difference between semi-auto pistols and revolvers... they'll both get the job done, it's just how comfortable you are with what. I'VE always used AMD, and even though they typically run a little hotter than the Intel chips, I'll probably stick with 'em.

I know Seth already posted this but here ya go Brian. This shows the Core 2 Duo E6850 as the top benchmarked CPU for gaming. Not bad for 300 bucks either. Remember games are not multi-threaded so additional cores does not beat higher operating frequencies.

*Most* games are not multi-threaded. Many games coming out this year and next ae planned to take full advanatge of multi-core CPUs.

Very true L3gend. Future games such as the much anticipated Crysis will be multi-threaded and able to leverage multi-cores. I only stated it that way cause i know Brian is a 2142 NOOB :P , which cannot leverage multi-cores. :)

I see you are going with the Nvidia chipset, good choice.....IMHO :D
If you are just a little bit geeky...like me......you could save a few dollaros
and get the E6600,put the difference to better.....or more ram,or both.
The reason I say the E6600,is,without much effort this chip will run at or near
3.6ghz. Unfortunately there are alot of variables that make or break overclocking,
so not all will react the same. For an example,I can't get mine to run stable past 3.6,
but my co-worker (who has the same components I do) can get his stable to 3.85ghz!

Just some food for thought.
