Hey all

I appreciate that so many people showed up ... thx everybody for that.

But I must say ... way way way - WAY too much trouble for 2 hours of BF1942 battle .... especially for me .... ( recruiting people, etc. ) ... but also for moon admins preparing the server, forum correspondence... etc ...

So we tried this .... and while the initial idea seemed fun to me, reality is that the match itself wasn't anything special ... an average round on moon TDM is actually more fun to me than this was ....

The only extraordinary about this was a really cool team-spirit, the feeling of "us versus them" and lots of people in the teamspeak channels .... and it was fun to see the World and USA tags on the scoreboards, in main chat, etc ...

But overall the event was nothing special ..... actually more a failed event .... ( I take the full responsibility for that ) .... especially considering the amount effort put into this.

Thx moon admins for allowing this "happening" .... I have sworn to myself that I will never ever again go through this much trouble for 2 hours of "fun" :-)

I don't feel it was a failure. Actually, this could be a bi-weekly event. And, saw some people that I recognized and some I didn't. Please let everyone know they are always welcome on servers and forums. Just bringing people together to play 42 and the turn out we got was great. :applaud:

nice job x to get that many players in the server for a match was great.i think less players would be better for match play tho. i did feel the same as tdm but great job getting everybody together.

Ya sorry i had to leave halfway in round 2. I had a lot of fun and was glad to see the turn out. Sure it seemed like a normal game on tdm but I saw players that I haven't seen in years.
Thanks for organizing this and I would like it to be a biweekly thing as Billy suggested without all the work you put into it X.

Good job x=x=x=x=x=x
I would like to see this done every 2 weeks.Good time being in team speak and working as a team with that many players.
Go through all the bf maps if you want and I'll be there!
Most of the hard work should be done.
People came and enjoyed. If you set up a scrim for every 2 weeks I am sure players will come.
You don't have to have 32 vs 32 all the time.Even with a 20 vs 20 game players will enjoy it especially if they are on teamspeak working as a team.
As long as players show up 15 mins before match time for a little tactical discusion without getting too serious and the match starts on time plus 5 or 10 minutes late you will attrct a following.
I thought the server ran well and battles were great.

true. the teamspirit was definitely one of the things which would make this event worth to be replayed

It was a fun game. If this ever happens again, I would not mind doing a vanilla map.

thx to X-X-X-X-X for that awesome idea,
and thx to the "attention paying" admins and the fair games:
less tk's and kicking, much equipment sharing and a lot of fun.
:grpwav:
I think that event was a great success and should be repeated may be with an other map/other maps.
two or three rounds will be enough for an event like this.
The moment/time for that event was chosen correctly: many players joined the server.
Hopefully we can have a revenge .... later :pokey:

...I guess that explains why we absolutely dominated the 1st round? And it must explain why we lost the second round in that we were at least 7 players short? I have confuse....

Rofl Doubti one of the pro bf1942 players?
He crashed more planes than he killed.

Just admit USA did beat us up..
They had more people on Teamspeak.. Better tactics and I think some better Inf players to.

It was fun... glad we had such a big turnout. It did feel a bit like a pub Moon TDM match, but was neat to have assigned teams and see a lot of unfamiliar names.
Next time I'll avoid TS... too many people on one TS channel makes my head spin! Unless it's just 8v8 or something. I'd be happy to do this weekly, especially since I don't have RtR/SW to play on Moon on Sunday!!
Thank you X for organizing this and thanks to everyone else for showing up :)

lol. brink and i were half assing it in the air and that doubti guy still couldnt touch us when it came to a dogfight. :\ ive seen much better in almost any pub.

this would be much more fun if it were smaller, i think. itd be cool to have a select USA 8 or 12 vs a EURO 8 or 12.

I'm not interested in any kind of BF1942 gameplay involving less than 40 players. Not in public servers, nor in competition / event matches.

This event will only be planned by me if the goal is to reach 40 players or more.

You / anybody is welcome to arrange USA vs. World 5 x 5, 8 x 8, 12 x 12 matches, etc ... but i won't participate in that ...

The teams can always break up into squads, and squads could have their own TS channel. That might satisfy some about less people in TS. I think the first match is the hardest to get started. X=X please let others from the World team side know to check forums, maybe this would take some of the effort off your shoulders to get some more matches going. I like the amount of players. Cause this is better I feel than the TWL ladders-which if we reduce the number of players-it would start feeling like. Any ideas on the next maps? maybe Wake?

Hopefully, we'll get more people on forums, and maybe be able to play some of the custom maps from download section. Kasserine would be a good one-planes and tanks-large map.

Thank you Billy once again for the comforting words .... they warm me in a cold cold world .....

Actually World side will be extremely easy to recruit for the next match, since it will be held on a Euro server ... Many Euro players stayed away last time because the match was held on a US server ....And Euro players are more active in xfire and has many many clan-forums ... so recruiting a large world team for next match will be a piece of cake .....

I fear that many of the USA *chickens* will stay away from the Euro match ... because they will have to play with a ping between 100 and 200 ( just like we Euros did in the last match ).

Two long rounds of Market Garden seemed a bit monotonous at the match, so for next match i suggest the following :

  • 5 different maps.
  • Only one round on each map.
  • A 30 minute timer on all maps.
  • A total duration of 2½ to 3 hours.

After having done some thinking, i have concluded that the following 5 maps in this order will equal super entertaintment, happiness and eternal joy :

Kharkov
Coral Sea
Aberdeen
Stalingrad - no nades / expacks
Wake

This is my best bid, but still just a suggestion ... nothing about next match has been "finally locked" yet.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When i organized the just held match, the biggest challenge was :

  • Recruiting players
  • Keeping the number of recruited players for each team balanced.

55 World players and 35 USA players signed up for last match.

If 39 World players and 14 USA players had shown up, the event would have been ruined.

Fortunately that number was 27 - 26 at game start.

I Recruited players to this match primarily by :

  • Posting in this forum
  • Posting in various other server and clan forums
  • Talking to people personally in xfire

I tried to balance teams by keeping a roster and only recruiting for the team that had the least players all the time. Close to the end i only recruited USA players since team World had grown so much.

If anyone has brilliant and ingenious ideas of how to do 1 and 2 better, i'd like to hear them.
