  • A match with 40+ players from all over the world, organized into two competing teams, “Team USA” and “Team WORLD”
  • This match is the “sequel” to the first USA vs. World match that was held August 14th 2011 http://www.moongamer...showtopic=55727
  • Match 1 was played on a US server …. This upcoming match 2 will be played on a EURO server.
  • Result of the first USA vs. WORLD match : USA 1 --- WORLD 0

When ?

Sunday October 2nd 2011

3 PM Eastern Time ( New York, Miami, Caracas )
21.00 Central European Time ( Stockholm, Paris, Rome )

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock

Duration :

2 hours

15 minutes of warm up and waiting for people to join, then 1½ - 2 hours of battling.

Server info:

IP : 87.72.86.236

Server name : USA vs. World – Part 2

Password : blackberry

Location : Denmark

The server will be up and running from Thursday September 29th 2011. Everybody is welcome to enter from that point, to check out ping, maps, server settings etc.

Ping advantages ?

In the first match, which was played on a server located in USA – East Coast, Team USA had a huge ping advantage :

Team USA had an average ping of 65.

Team WORLD had an average ping of 130.

That is why this match will be held on a Europe based server to compensate for that.

Competition format :

When the entire match is over, the following will determine which team has won :

The number of tickets remaining at the end of each round will be added for each team. The team that has the most tickets after all 6 rounds is the winner.

The prize is glory, honor and entertainment.

Team side :

Team World will play allied on all maps.

Maps :

One round will be played on each map. Duration per round : 25 – 30 minutes.

  • Wake Island cq ----- 30 minutes.
  • Aberdeen cq ----- 30 minutes ----- Mains non-capturable, 2 extra light tanks at each main.
  • Coral Sea cq ----- 25 minutes ----- One carrier, unlimited planes. Two rounds will be played if round one is shorter than 10 minutes.
  • Omaha Beach cq ----- 25 minutes ----- No grenade / expack refills at ammoboxes. Beach and top flag slightly modded / moved.

Vehicle spawn times for all maps :

Planes --- 15 seconds ( Coral Sea 10 seconds )
Tanks --- 15 seconds
Jeeps --- 5 seconds

Server settings :

1.61b
Punkbuster on
64 player slots
250 % tickets
90 second start delay between each map
5 second spawn delay
25 % friendly fire
25 % kickback
Freecam on

Who can join ?

Everybody can join, … noobs are welcome, so are pros, clan people, snipers, zookers,
expackers, infantry aces, tankers, pilots, ship-captains, artillerists, aagunners,
defensive players, mad chargers, etc. ... don't worry about your skills,
the primary goal of the match will be to have fun, and to gather 40 or more players ( hopefully 60+ ).

How to join the match :

Anybody can enter the server and join the match. Signup isn't required.

BUT … If the server gets full, OR if the number of players on each team gets very unbalanced, we might start kicking players that haven’t signed up.

So …if you want a guaranteed slot on the server for the entire match …. please sign up.

Teamspeak :

MoonGamers International

MoonTS.sytes.net

IP : 64.34.179.226

Port: 9987

In Match 1, there was only one channel per team. More than 15 players were in the USA channel, making communication almost impossible.

Match 1 teamspeak: Posted Image

This time, one to three channels channels per team will be set up, depending on how many people will join teamspeak.

Rules :

All players must wear [WORLD] or [USA] tags in front of their names. Any names / clan tags are allowed after that.

Match 1 tags : Posted Image

Is this being ran off of a real box?

Also, I will not play if we are doing 6 map changes.

by "real box" i assume you mean a rented server ....

no ... the server i mention above is a regular desktop pc, but a modern one, with a quadcore cpu, modern network card, and low latency fiber connection.

it has been set up as a bf1942 server many times, and has hosted bf1942 games with up to 30 players from all over the world without any issues ....

for reference ... the public bf1942 server "Netorn" that ranked # 2 in the world for years, and still is running, also is run on a desktop home pc, but with totally outdated hardware : single-core slow athlon cpu, slow adsl connection, old network card, etc ....

that server has had 60+ players on for thousands of hours, and hasn't crashed and lagged significantly more than moon tdm ...

if anybody wants to find another server to host this match, they are welcome to do so ....

but they have to find / come up with / provide / rent a server in western europe .... and that within a maximum of 6 days from now .... i'm not interested in changing server in the last minute ...

if a lot of people object to play 6 maps, i will be willing to change to fewer, and maybe also different maps.

Signing up.. As long as there are a lot of players.

Would prefer Team USA.. Dont really like xxx...

6 rounds to much.
it isnt even fair because you keep switching map when you have played 1 round.
Omaha Beach axis isnt the same as omaha beach allied..

You should have 2 maps and let USA and WORLD play on axis and allied.

I'm not at all interested in playing but I really hope this match goes ahead.

It's obvious from reading x-x-x's posts over the years that he hates, really, really, really, really HATES to lose.

The battering that 'Team World' took on the US server has really got to him aswell (Los Angeles is as far from New York as Denmark is but he moans like hell about US players having a ping advantage. If I was in the US team I'd have played on a server in LA  )

I'll give you credit x-x-x, you're going all out to get your revenge. Carefully selecting maps that suit you, making sure your team is Allies on those maps, loop bombing & pixeling are allowed, & you'll have a ping of what, 2? 1? 0?

Man you'd sure better hope you don't lose or you'll never be able to show your face around here again :boff:

don't worry ... this isn't a dictatorship, and i am listening with great attention to all your comments and ideas ... keep 'em coming ....

MaYoRofSMACK .... thanks for giving me my first laugh of the day ...

what you're saying is funny reading, but a bit wrong ... however ... i'm not gonna start a big discussion ...

my primary goal with this event is to gather 40+ people, and to give as many people as possible, including myself, three hours of extraordinary entertainment ....

winning is often important to me when i play on public servers, but in an event like this ... no

also ... i'll maybe be the only admin on the server, so i won't be able to play all the time ...

i thought i was doing players and the community a favor by setting up events like these .. do any of you know how many hours i spent organizing last match ? it almost had to be counted in triple digits ....

that is why i have been hesitant to set up a new match .... because of the amount of hours needed to pour into it ...

if this kind of arrangement isn't appreciated, and actually pisses people off, then i have no interest in doing it .....

another reason why i am willing to do this again, is because many people have told me in xfire that they really enjoyed the last match, and the they would love to play another ... many people people have pm'ed me in xfire sinse last match ... saying ... will there be another match ...? will there be another match ...?

what i'm doing is volunteer work .... and if you all rather would have no more of these events, you can have that instantly ... right now ... .... i wouldn't mind canceling this .... i can think of a lot of more interesting real life stuff to spend 50 hours on ...

I think the question of a "real server" was to make sure it wasn't going to be held on YOUR computer.

#9 X=X=X=X=X=X=X=X

Posted 12 September 2011 - 07:35 AM

yes ... the plan was to host this match on one of MY COMPUTERS in MY HOME ....

why would anybody have a problem with that ?

if y'all don't like that, there are two options :

  • find another euro server within 6 days
  • cancel the event ....

Well I wonder how this will all go down. When your team played on our server I don't know anyone that had the same ping you will have hosting this on your PC. So I don't see how this will remotely be fair all the way around. You know the Euro servers so well I would suggest you find a different server that would give you some type of ping other than zero.

#14 gregefc

you may as well just cancel the damn thing if you are going to keep threatening to do so...

you are always going to have people giving you shit (sometimes deserved) so if you are getting butthurt about it and want to cancel it because of that, then go ahead. pretty lame if you ask me.

in for usa (probable)

also, 6maps?

ehh ... CJHM ... arent you from the netherlands ? if you are ... then you should play for team world ... right ?

regarding admining ... i'm actually not interested in being an admin, i would rather just play .... but i'll do it if no one else wants to ...

if anybody wants to be an admin instead of me for this match ... please say so ... they will be given full access to bf1942 remote manager .... 1 - 4 admins are needed

like i have said before ... i don't enjoy admining, recruiting people, modding maps, posting page after page in forums about this, etc. etc. .....

i'd rather just turn on my computer every second sunday at 21.00 cet, and play matches for three hours ... without all these "work-like" duties ... i'm only doing the above because no one else wants to do them ...

if anybody wants to assist me, or completely take over the following tasks ... please say so ...

  • organizing this match and upcoming matches
  • admining
  • modding maps
  • running the server
  • finding another server
  • recruiting people
  • coordinating with moon core admins
  • other stuff

Personally speaking,

With hindsight x=x=x you should have had an ideas and comments post first, than after a week or two a sign up post. A few of the members who signed up last time and played are/where competition players. While this is more of a fun match, there input/idears/opinions would have been of value to you. For example SIX maps is way way to many, the most you would need is three. With one being ctf as a tie breaker, in case the other two end up as a draw. You may have also have had someone who may know of a euro community/server who would be willing to host this, rather than a home pc. But that's just my personal opinion,

As Core Admin(for those of you who do not know who or what Core admin are I suggest you start reading up)

A little over a month or so ago x=x=x came up with the idea of a Euro v USA match, at the time it was posted that the return match would be on a euro server. X=X got in touch with core to see if this was not only ok to post, but to see if we would provide the server. X=X for the most part came up the idea, posted that and the team post, kept them up to date, and for the most part done the bulk of the work on arranging this match. Despite a post that went up debating the finer points of ping v latency the match had a good number of people enter and ended up being rather successful.

Despite the success of the last match, I have read this thread so far with some disappointment. Players, ex-admins, admins, admin wannabees, and Snrs have all prodded, picked on, and made fun of someone who has been trying to add a little bit of competition and variety to this community and bf42. On the whole it has been based on reputation, Without giving a damn that x=x=x has little experience in organizing these events or even caring about how successful the last match was. Rather than criticize every little thing that x=x=x is trying to do here, how about somebody step up and help out, or offer assistance with the planning via PM. If your not going to, dont wanna or not interested in playing in this match than I strongly suggest you do not post in this thread. From now on posts will start to disappear if need be. If you want to play than simply sign up.

X=X I suggest you dont worry to much about having the match on a euro server or home pc. If you are willing moongamers will quite happily host it, I will also suggest that you actually listen to some of the peoples input on this return match. A few of them/us have been at this a lot longer than you have

I agree that i should have made an idea / comments thread first … especially because I can’t edit this post anymore … regular members like me can’t do that after one hour has passed. But that is too late now … so hopefully I can get an admin to edit the match summary for me … once the details are settled.

And thank you birney / moongamers for offering to host this match on a moon server… I really appreciate that … but I must say that it is not an option …I have promised the euros that a rematch will be played on a euro server … giving the americans a huge ping advantage all the time is extremely unfair … every second match should be played on a euroserver ... if that can’t be done, then I wont take part of it.

Using a home pc as a server is not a bad thing … many players with little or no tech insight think that home pc’s are crap for usage like this, and that server hardware is supreme to it and almost has magical powers …… that is totally wrong … the hardware and connection I can offer is better than what most current euro bf1942 servers provide, and will probably yield better ping and stability to you americans than most other euro servers will.

I have already spent loads of time preparing this match … and im not gonna spend hours contacting clan and server leaders all over europe to ask if we can borrow their server …. especially not when some of you are so unthankful of this volunteer work I am doing … if any of you want this match to be played on another server, you will have to find it yourselves.

And I think it is real poor sportsmanship only wanting to play at “home court” like you americans did in the first match, and then chickening out when not having that advantage anymore …. I know that a few of you have signed up, and that is appreciated … but I have heard a lot of complaining about having to play with ping 120+ … which is exacly what the euros did in the first match …. please step out of the “comfort zone” and give the opposition a chance to have the advantage too…

Rather than playing a few maps for 2 rounds, I think it is a lot more diverse, versatile and interesting to play one round at each map..

To compensate for that “unbalance” … we could play the exact same maps / rotation in USA vs. World - Part 3 … that way there wouldn't be any unfairness

I'm willing to cut one map away .. so the maps / rotation looks like this

wake ----- 40 minutes ----- an all-round and really cool "us versus them map"
coral ----- 25 minutes ----- something for the pilots
stali tdm ----- 15 minutes ----- pure infantry
omaha ----- 30 minutes ----- a really cool "us versus them map"
aberdeen ----- 30 minutes ----- something for the tankers

This equals 2 hours and 20 minutes ... that's actually quite short time …

Why is playing more than 3 maps so horrible to some of you ?

A lot of people complained about last match … saying that the rounds were too long, and that it was dead boring to play the same map twice … and I agree with that …. you all shouldn’t be afraid to experiment a little with the competition setup / format ….

Can any of you seriously say that 2 hours and 20 minutes is too long for a fun match like this ?
