I went and bought a new soundcard today, and the guy spent 2 or 3 hours trying to get it working; no luck.

so, now i will re-install windows, or maybe format my comp.
or maybe even spring the cash for XP.
thoughts?

Have you tried repairing your installation of Windows? That works a lot of the time... Of course, I have XP Pro, so I don't know how you would do that unless it's the same process. It usually involves starting a re-install, then it asks if you wish to repair or install a new version...

If you are in school, like college, check to see if your's has a school computer store or look for a copy in the bookstore, I got a copy of pro at mine for $67 bucks, or you could look online for "deals".
