I'd just build a new one. I just finished my first build.

E6400
2gb corsair xms2 DDR2 675
Geforce 8800gts (640mb version)

Performs like an uber high end machine (sort of is one ) but I built it for 1400 dollars. (using old monitor) If you have buckets of cash (Marc...) get a really uber Alienware if you want it, but if you are on a budget, definitely build it.

Design it yourself, if you feel uncomfortable with the actual build have a local shop do it for you. You'll have a sense of accomplishment knowing you pieced together your own computer and more than likely put some money back in your pocket.

I learned a lot piecing my components together, in the end and to this day I'm very happy with my computer and how I went about putting it together.

If you build it yourself, or buy it, make sure you get a quality case (not cheapo plastic) and a good power supply.

Even if building yourself buy a case with a good power supply already included, that way you don't have to throw that one away and buy a decent one additionally.

YES! Bad PSU can end with your computer getting fried and you will lose everything besides the case itself. You may be able to pull the optical drive out but that would be about all if PSU goes kerplunk.

I actually meant that most power supplies are too weak, but that's a point too.

Maybe some of you engineer types can clarify this, but I've always heard that quality power supplies put out "cleaner" power than a cheap PSU, which means your components will last longer.

True and true. Cheaper power supplies may fluctuate a little bit on their power output and slowly damage your components faster then normal use.

I hear this "clear" power thing, but power is power in my case.

However, most cases come with a 2500/300 watt PSU. Why pay for that THEN buy a 600 watt, when you can just buy a good case WITH a 550/600 or whatever.

I, of course, being the crazy cheap person that I am, have a 400 or so watt PSU, and never come close to using the power. I also have a Radeon x850XT card, which has a fan the size of 1.5 PCI card slots below the PCI Express slot, and sounds like a jet engine, but uses minimum power. I also have 4 case fans, 2 hard drives, and a DVD drive.

Of course, I am not Dual Core yet.

That is a great case/psu combo. It is from one of the best PSU manufacturers in all the land. It is also really cheap for what you get.

500w is probably not good enough for two 8800's. Also, if it were me I'd just get one 8800gtx rather than 2 320 gts's.

I've successfully built 3 computers now. And I really do enjoy it. Other than the money it may save you, building your own computer makes you feel good... it's cool when you're done and you can say: yes! I did this! You can add your own personal touch.
