UPDATE:
I manage to finally boot from the CD Drive. I wiped the hard drive and bit the bullet and did a clean install. I next did a little set up and started to install the Nvidia drivers. The one thing that was odd though was when I was dicking around with it last night the IDE driver was never installed from the Nvidia disk. I installed it today along with everything else. I was able to get online and started to download Windows updates. All 80 of them. I rebooted at all the right prompts and just when I thought all was good the blue sliding bar on the start up screen just kept going. Then it finally froze. So I am starting from scratch except this time I will not load the IDE drivers. What a pain in the ass !!! I really appreciate everyones help and it may come down to getting Geeked like Foze suggested...JJ

Why would you need to install IDE drivers for anything in XP? JJ...once you get reformatted and start to load your drivers...make sure you are using the correct NVIDIA drivers...and chipset. I assume it is a NVIDA chipset on the motherboard...to me from what you have said lately...it is a chipset issue too!

Rock on brother! :)

JJ,I can feel your pain when it comes to this crap. I have an Nvidia board too.....EVGA 680i. I NEVER use the disk,I get
everything from the vendors website (lastest versions) for everything.

When you get your rig back to normal and completely updated,I have one word....and a number...GHOST 12.
There are a couple other brands too,but this is teh shit when it comes to problems like you just encountered.
Put your Norton recovery disk in,boot from it,point to where your BU resides....... walla, back as it was. Xp disk isn't even needed!!

The one neat thing, that I didn't know you could do:
Install a new HDD,don't do ANYTHING with it.Boot your Ghost and put your entire intact C drive on your new HDD ..... ....DONE!!!!

OMG....I heard gun shots, did you hear that..." JJ "

Few things in life get my heart rate up and teeth clenched tight, that shit you're going through does it every time. I hope to hell you get it fixed and can sit back with a pint and laugh it off. In the end I wouldn't doubt you learned something along the way.

Great Moonwork all!

As of now I am walking away from it. Its to frustrating and I am doing more harm than good at this point. I'm trying to install XP one last time as I am writing this but if it does not work then I am going to just take a break. I have my Mac but I lost all my banking and other really important bookmarks and some things like my resume and other works in progress.

Once again I thank all those who have tried to help me along the way. I have just run out of patience and steam. My wife has been walking around waiting for me to throw the rig out the window. I guess I'll see ya when I see ya...JJ is out baring a computing miracle...

Thanx again...Dave

I'm telling ya, I am in your realm David. I know enough to get things really screwed up. But, once they are fragged, I don't know enough about it to fix it. So, bring it to the geeks and let them get you rolling. The difference is this: currently, you are walking around the house pulling your friggen hair out because you can't get it going. You are not really sure where to go from there. And if it fails, there is really no where to turn.

Bring it to a computer store, pay them the dough, and when you get it back, it will be working, albeit a little lighter since all your information is gone. Once you have that, I would pick up a USB hard drive, I did when I got this one new and started over. Put your stuff on that, when you are all done, so at the very least, next time it gets fubar, you have a good starting point, to give to the computer store to restore where you now.

Does that make any sense or I am rambling?

Sorry man. I looked through planet bf, bf2142, EA, and totalbf but no one had the same problem you did as far as I could tell.

As Enforcer said, take it to the pros. Its gets to the point where it just ain't worth the hassle.

Good luck!

Can I have some jelly for my toasted mobo? I ordered another one and am upgrading the CPU to a 4400+ 64x2 cuz I'm there and its cheap. I couldn't see changing over to AM2 at this point so I'll ride out the 939 wave until the beach changes. So I'm out for another 5 days... Just think someone will have to pick up my colorful T/S antics or Juan will have to go into detox...JJ

Just so everyone knows I actually listened to someone for a change. Thanks Foze...
