ok ... many of you probably hate me more or less ... if you can ... try and look besides that ... and tell me in all honesty ... :

is this event a good idea ... or a bad idea ...

should i go ahead with the long heavy haul, recruit people and make this event reality ? or should i cancel it ?

i have listened to your input and will reduce duration and number of maps ...

2 hours and 4 maps is as low as i can go ...

wake
coral
omaha
aberdeen

still hosted on my personal server

Besides all the animosity, I appreciate the time putting this event together and want to thank you. It would be a waist of everyone's time if you cancelled it despite the take it or leave it attitude at the start of the post.

It is critical that I mention my doubts of whether your server is up to it. When I was connected and we had our friendly exhibition, my connection and yours had a fluctuation of 30-65ms, 3 times in 15 minutes. So much so you asked me to stop shooting you. To be on an LAN with a difference like that, for you as well is simply unacceptable. Perhaps it would be best to determine the cause before subjecting an additional 40+ other players to the same issue. A fiber connection still has a latency and can suffer major internal issues (LAN setup) as opposed to a hosting site that is 1 or 2ms away from a CO. Just a heads up to all interested in the event.

Thanks again I should be able to attend

i have had that exact pc with that exact fiber connection and in the exact same lan, set up as a public bf1942 server one year ago ...

i ran that public server just for fun and to experiment and such ...

the server was up for seven days or so, and at some points ... 25+ people from all over the world were connected ...

i never saw one single instance of unintended disconnections, stuttering, lag, latency spikes, etc ...

i am quite sure that it will be able to host 40+ players without any problems ...

Good news! I appreciate the fast response as well. Did you find out what was it before that caused the lag and made you have a disconnect on your end mid game? If it was that bad your end remember we are a bit farther away, things tend to compound! Perhaps another user on your LAN streaming or downloading. Personally, I would check the routers logs or ONT just to be sure.

i live alone in my own house ....

the only other people here are the danish and swedish teen supermodels that i date .... but they never touch computer related stuff ...

and i'd never run other net traffics when the server is up ...

USA vs. WORLD – Part 2 – SERVER STRESS TEST

Coming up in less than 24 hours … ….

Wednesday September 21st

3.30 PM Eastern / 21.30 CET

Duration : 30 minutes

The point of this is to test the server with 30+ players on for instability, lag, disconnections, etc …

The server has never had more that 30 players on at the same time …and I need to test this before having 50+ players on at USA vs. WORLD – Part 2.

So if you want to help out … please log on for at least 15 minutes and play … I need as many players as possible to do this … at least 15 euro players will get on too … this is not the real match …. just a server test ….

IP : 87.72.86.236
Port : 14567
Server name : USA vs. WORLD – TEST
No password
Map : Stalingrad TDM

anybody can stay as long as they want, and the server will be up a couple of hours, but most people will probably only be on for 10 - 15 minutes ....

How did the stresstest go?

I do want to point out, I started out by hosting my server from my computer using the school's internet..Which I don't remember how fast it was, but I was able to get 48 in the server once and I'm sure the lag was there, but considering 30 of the 48 there were from Europe, I can't really separate the one's that were complaining and the ones who weren't. I also have a really fast computer, but the server was crash-prone after a few days of having 40 + players in it..It would start crashing almost daily.

And then, I don't think you've showed us your computer or internet speed, so there is a huge possibility you will only be able to hold 6 people, or 0.

Moronville was hosted from a home PC for years until it was stolen by Havoc and Scope, but still --- Just use the server you did last time, because, if you host it in Europe, you basically HAVE to host it in the UK or closer, if you don't want the ping average for the Americans to be 200+

Experience.

The "stress test" ... went ok ... only 16 players were on when population topped and it lasted an hour. total server cpu load never rose above 5 %.

I saw no disconnections, no collective lag and no ping fluctuations. I asked everybody to report any connection anomalies, but haven't heard from anybody since.

I also have a really fast computer, but the server was crash-prone after a few days of having 40 + players in it..It would start crashing almost daily.

all bf1942 servers are crash-prone ... moon tdm crashes at least 2 times per day and have done so for years ....

i have in post 4 in this thread, here it is again "a regular desktop pc, but a modern one, with a quadcore cpu, modern network card, and low latency fiber connection."

plus i have had 30 on at other times without any issues

Americans connecting to this server should expect the ping they have at moon tdm + 100 ... so if your ping at tdm normally is 25, then it will be 125.

Expect average usa ping to be around 150

That may sound as much for you yankees, but average ping at match 1 for team world ( minus the canadians ) were 150 too .... the proof is right here :

( look at the pictures in post # 6 )
