We simply can't make everyone happy. That being said, we're looking at reducing grenades to 2 per player and slowing the reload by a few seconds in order to slow things down. New players rely on nades rather than shooting, it has reduced the server to a noobfest at times.


I like the idea of slowing the reload by a few seconds, Omaha in particular. I wouldn't do it for all the maps though. I don't believe reducing the limit will make that big of difference. Berlin/Stalingrad without grenades is ideal (the maps are already modded this way which is great). With the current rotation on the tdm server, Omaha seems to be the only area of concern.

Either way I will still play regardless of the decision that will be made. I'm just glad I'm not the one making the decision ;)

cant we just reduce nade damage a bit
to give mp40 heros the time that they need to be heros

i love doing nadespam
but i hardly never do it
cos i dont need to piss anyone off like that

battleax is just made for nadespam
cant we make pistols fire nades on this map

omaha is a great map for nadespam , maybe the best
but allies dont have enough safe ammo crates or apc's

Hey billyboy,

Many maps can be used for nade spaming.

Funny idea to have a granade laucher as in SW

Do you know that as a fact or is just your opinion, is there any text, book etc where that fact is detailed... as far as i know machineguns were the deadliest.

It doesn't only "piss anyone off", it destroys the game and gets you kicked. You are talking about it as if nadespam would be an alllowed, accepted thing. Attitudes like that drove a lot of players away from BF42, because they actually don't see any fun in getting killed by nothing but grenades or expacks, may it be from enemies or, even worse, by idiot teammates who tk because they keep on nading even if the enemy is dead since 5 seconds.

Oh it is ? I always thought maps like Omaha and Battleaxe get ruined by nadespam, killing the fun and bringing a lot of work to the Admins.

why have a thread "question of nades , have your say" to just criticise someones comments ?

is it some trick question an the answer is to say the same thing as you ?

piss off or not i dont nadespam on server cos i play another type of game
and have enough admin looking for some reason to kick already

but i dont complain if it happens cos its part of the game
, like "some bore in a tank parked on an ammo crate puffing endless 88 shells all round" spam
or "fighter plane with 3750 kg bombs" spam
or "medikit handbag waving " spam

bf2 has loads of players and a nadespam class
you find a spot and shout "nadespam (ammo) here !" an everyone starts lobbing nades like a stoning (must be the middle eastern setting ...)
so nadespam in online games (and spam in general) is not that unpopular


battleax is made for nadespam , that is why it happens mon pauvre ami
- 6 spawns with ammo crates all a nade's throw from 2 others , what are we gonna do ?
almost impossible to make the rule respected here

omaha also popular for nadespam (not necessarily a good thing , tdm with planes is the best)
but allies cant spam back so this is a bit of a bore , but 3 nades can get some fancy kills through the bunker windows....

@ trooper : grenade kills in ww2 is a statistic that suprised me too , but it includes mortar grenades which fire a bit further than you can throw , rifle and machine gun kills were less than i imagined , try wiki "ww2 deaths" for the source

If I may...

I think Battleaxe is one of the best maps in BF1942, because it has everything and is balanced. But is it made for nadespam?! NOoo it is not! :( It is made to be one of the best maps! (in my opinion) but the nades really kill it. Ofc, very often, when one side caps all flags, it becomes unbearable. Why?.. Because players will then throw three nades at the spawn point. You cannot even move. It is players like MALCOM TEN who likes doing that and actually believes that it is skillful. Expacking at a spawn point takes skills? Hm. Talk Dirty to ME... seen him? He runs around and around footnading. All round! Chacal? Always uses a zook kit, YET, I never seen him use a zook to kill someone... But these players are free to do what they want because they are within the rules. But in my opinion, playing like that is a complete joke. Frankly, naders are a joke. No, FOOTNADERS are a joke. If I had my way, footnaders should be banned. But I am not an admin :) I think delaying the reload time would be nice because players will understand "crap, it is going to take too long to get my footnade off, so let me use the gun to kill him."

Yes, nades are a part of the game. I won't deny that. But comon, use them for the right reaons, such as, against tanks/apcs. Don't throw three nades at someone then use a medic gun to finish him off. Something Franken Berry is master at. I am not disrespecting his skills as a medic, but he does throw a nade at someone then uses a medic gun to finish him off. I seen him throw a nade at me ten feet away and uses his tommy to kill me. I commented on it "nade moar" and he said "cry more" Good point. :) Again, he is a fine medic player.

Expacks? Too often I see people having the packs in their hands and ready to use when no enemy is near. That means no matter what, they will use the expack first. I have no problem with someone using the rifle first then uses the expack as a secondary option. Watching people use two/three expacks to kill a single player cracks me up lol. :rofl: People who uses expack as a booby trap in the mill in Bocage can do that anytime he wants to because expacking in the mill doesn't help the team get flags.

I like to be on the ground, and I prefer rifles over medic guns any day, but I use the medic mostly since I fear within seconds, my health will lower due to the overuse of nades. I am thankful that I don't use audio or else I would go crazy to the booming sounds of the nades. :boff:

Things like delaying reload time and any the other suggestions mentioned above would be a nice change. Anything to change the overusing of the nades in the server will be greatly appeciated.

Nevertheless, it is still a great server to play on. I just think it can be slightly better. :)

Ive been playing this awesome game over 5 years now and i cant help that my tactic is throw all the nades and then finish them with a gun. Some people find that annoying, but i have been always like that. I call my tactic a "super rough straight forward". But to be honest i think that nades belong to this game, but i dont lose my overnight sleep if there where 2 nades/person.

And the reason why i use this method "super rough straight forward" is because...well...killing the enemy.

The main reason to play on this sever is having fun. But when you don´t have any chance to even get out of your main (depends on map) because it´s raining nades is killing the fun completely.

I´m playing 42 for 2 1/2 years now, and I don´t think I used more than 10 nades against infantry in this whole time. When I´m playing, I wanna have good, clear and fair fights. But this is not possible with all this nades.

Using them against tanks & APC´s is not a problem, it´s the normal way when you didn´t spawn with zook kit. But constantly using them against infantry before even thinking about using a gun is just a confession of failure in my opinion. Those guys should play BF42´s single player mode. Same challenge.

By the time I know many players that don´t play here anymore because of all the nades. They miss the same good, clear and fair fights like I do.

My proposal: 1 nade per kit.

For me is same harmfull when a medic enemy, for example, reach enemy hanger at EL AL and with his Tommy,
spawn kill many anemy as possible, getting from the ground enemy medic kits to go on and on with it.

If something is done about nades then also prev must be reviewed as also tank steal at enemy main for
spawn killing, I don´t see any complaints about that when is as anoying as nade spaming or medic spawn
kill at enemy mains.

I know for sure that the ones that think are "skilled players" and they want to kill the other players
w/o any consequences, as been killed by a weapon that is part of the game since firts demos releases
are the ones that don´t like nades, is simple as that. Would be better to erase all nades, expacks etc etc
that kill thouse players and instead have only some medic players in and not a full server with thouse players and the
nadders ? i don´t think so, if they don´t like nadding then they should become ever more "skilled"
and find the way to dodge nades expotions and that will be something cool to see, but impossible.

I think the gameplay is just fine the way it is. Sure it is incredibly annoying just to hear nades constantly exploding and just silly to see people using nothing but them but that is just part of the game - if someone is going to play like that, just kill them and be satisfied :)

Yes this comes from someone who gets more than his fair share of nade kills, but playing against them is an essential element to the game overall.

That said, it would be nice if we played a few more infantry only maps here and there.

You mean there are other ways to kill someone besides shooting or a knife? Man this opens up a lot of possibilities. Now I just have to pay EA for the nade unlock I guess. In all seriousness it is part of the game but I did like the 2 nade limit and slower resupply time.

in real life even the greater ninja, samurai, comando, seal, 007, mi6, kgb, stasi, etc etc will die with
a nade, why not in a game ?

I always thought there should be nades, but only 3 per life. So you only replenish 3 nades after you die. Once you use the 3 you are forced to use other weapons. Nades are not a primary weapon and this would be the best way to make it so they are not used as a primary weapon, but will keep them part of the game.

Playing against nades is an essential element to the game overall, I think most of us around here would agree to that. My question is - to what extent?

Nade spam, especially on maps such as Berlin, is not essential to the game. It does not improve the quality of play. It creates an environment where people feel they need to throw more grenades just so they won't be killed by them.

Honestly, all of the new Origin players have made the game far more refreshing, and similar to how it used to be. The few remaining players on the BF42 servers before this free version came out did nothing besides throw grenade after grenade. These new players are actually trying to learn how to play. Extremely refreshing.
