I'm looking to buy some 5.1 speakers for my computer. I have two questions. One is for audio buffs and the other is for anyone who has set up 5.1 speakers on their computer.

1. [Audio Buff] What are good speakers to get in the 5.1 PC speaker world. I have Sony 2.1 speakers now. They are ok but I want better sound and 5.1. I have Polk $peaker$ on my home theater which sound great. I am considering the Klipsch 5.1 speakers. Are these any good or will some like the Altec Lansig 5.1's be just as good?

2. How do you set up the 5.1 speakers around your computer? My computer is in the corner of the room. This creates a problem if I try to place them for the correct listening position. I'd have speakers on stands in the middle of my computer room!

Don,

I have these, I could not be happier. Mine sound much better than any speaker setup I have ever heard in person, that includes tv setups. As far as placement, Just do the best you can with the rears, you would be surprised how far away you can place em and still get the full effect.

Don,

I have the Altec Lansing 5.1 and an L shaped workstation. I have the center behind the monitor (flat panel so it doesn't fit on top), the two fronts just to either side of the monitor, and the rears to the far left and right of the workstation. Not a "true" surround sound but as close as I could get with the limitations of putting the rears in the middle of the room. The subwoofer is in the box normally reserved for the cpu. I have the cpu sitting on the top of the desk to help with the cooling of the box.

Well, I finally broke down and bought new computer speakers. I got the Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1's. Now I just need to get my Doom3 CD's back so I can actually play something with 5.1 sound. Anybody know what other good PC games are 5.1 encoded?
