My PC crashed about once an hour when Im playing BF42. I get a "blue screen" and the machine saved some data before it just restarts. I think its kinda a security shutdown. But how can I make my damn PC clear that BF42 is just a game...? lol...

Any ideas how to avoid these shutdowns?

i think i found out a solution for problem. it seems there was problem with realtek audio driver. i installed newest 2.24 driver, and i havent seen any crashes anymore:)

First thing is we need to know what the BSOD is saying.
If you're not able to read it then you need to turn off automatic restart.
To do that go to Start->Control Panel->System->Advanced System Settings->Startup and Recovery->Settings
Uncheck: Automatically restart
Click OK until you're back to Control Panels
Restart the system
Recreate the event and when the BSOD shows up write down everything. The important parts are the reason, the STOP number and the file name if any
Example:

Reason: Driver_IRQL...etc
STOP number: 0x000000D1
File name: gv3.sys

Also if it says it's making a memory dump like the example does, that's a good thing.
Now keep in mind that as it's been suggested it could be the drivers, but it could also be a RAM issue. Because of that I have to ask is this only happening with BF42 or does it happen in other games?

happens only with BF42 (dont play other games regularly).

I took two semesters auf Deutsch. Let's see... I see the date, when you are online doing something this happens, and that's about it lol. I got a C, then next semester a B. Figure that one out.

Ok like the report says, go here C:\Windows\Minidump\112410-36020-01.dmp and get that dmp file, zip it up and upload it.
I've got a Windows debug program that can read it and find where the problem is. And it's not that I'm special, anyone can get this program and use it, I'm just that geeky

While I'm doing that go here http://memtest.org/ download the bootable ISO and burn that like you normally would a disc image to a CD.
Boot from it and let it run. While it's running, go to sleep/work/school/watch a movie/whatever. Look at the screen shots on a site, there is a row things in the lower half. Where it says Pass, when the number under that says at least 3 or 4 then you can stop.
If before that you get any red lines and where it says Errors has anything other than 0, well that's a bad thing. Move the RAM sticks to different slots if you can or simply take them out, get a can of air and blow out the slots and put them back in and run memtest again. If you still get errors, well you find your problem, get some new RAM.

edit: i burned memtest on a DVD but my PC wont boot from it. yes, i selected "boot from optical drive" but it wont... do i have to use a cd instead of a dvd?

I honestly have never tried it with a DVD, for as small as memtest is a CD is a waste of 700MB so a DVD would be a waste of 4GB. However it should work just the same.

When you put the disc back in the drive, while in Windows, and open it what do you see?

In welchem Verzeichniss hast Du es installiert und mit welchen Rechten startest Du es?
BF muss man nicht mit dem Kompatibilätsmodus starten. Einfach DX9 installieren und BF als Admin ausführen.

In my view my ram is ok.

I'm really sorry I've taken so long to reply to the dump file. I'm old and it slipped my mind. Again very sorry.
Yes it looks like your RAM is perfectly fine. 8 passes is more than enough and 0 errors is a great thing, that's exactly what you want.

I have looked at the dump file and sad to say the problem is a hardware error. Something to do with you PCIexpress. The problem here, and I had to go back and look to remind myself, is that you're on a laptop. So I can't really say what to do to narrow down the exact problem.
I would suggest contacting ASUS, more so if it's still under warranty, and tell them what the problem is. If it's still within the 1 year warranty (the common length) go to the store you got the laptop from and see what they can do.

Here is the result of that dump file that showed me, and now you, what the problem is. Maybe copy/paste it to a text file and even print it out to give to ASUS or the store you got it from so they can see the problem as well.

Although sucky news in general, kudos out to Wolk for being the "geek" that he is for figuring all that out. I also have the crash thing, but, not to the bluescreeofdeath, but to the desktop when playing Desert Combat, within BF1942. So, I understand how annoying that becomes having to open the game again, and log in the game again, blah, blah, blah.

In his screenshot is a line with gv3.sys but this is a old file and wont be supported since winxp sp2.
gv3.sys or the new one Intelppm.sys are for for the energy-management and give the System a message if the Laptop goes from power-supply to battery or battery to power-supply. You should change/update this file.

I think you over looked the fact that I was the one that posted that screen shot, not the OP. I used that as an example of what to look for and what to right down.
