nvidia 8800 gtx is CA$ 750, thats just insane, when you look into DX10, it wont be a norm for another year at least, and by that time when everything works with DX10 only, this card will be outdated.
MIcrosoft will come with new DivX9 version that will have all new programs and games able to run in current cards, old cards will be usable even after DivX10, wont perform like D10 but you will be able to use it....

one of Windows vista's feature is AERO, part of it will be runing only with DX10, only that part you wont be able to run with 7950 GT card
Actually, I don't beleive that's true. I had the Vista beta a while back and Aero was fully enabled. I've also seen on nVidia's website that you can use Aero to it's max with a relativley newer DX9 card.
And as far as the 8800s are concerned, basically, if you have a crappy system, the best thing to do is to upgrade CPU+Mobo+RAM BEFORE getting a DX10 card. The 8800 use alot of power (electricity and processing), so if the rest of your system isn't able to keep up with the graphics card, the card will be bottlenecked and you won't get the full GPU power from it.
