This isn't really here to offer tips for a science character, but rather seek them. I know several of you play science officers and I just started up on mine last night. I know how to play tactical just fine and dandy and I'm getting used to my engineer, but science is pretty versatile and I didn't wanna just blow my points into skill areas that are actually useless and end up having to spend for a re-spec trait token to get it right (example is how I've ready that building a shield drain build for PvE is actually useless now). So any helpful hints are appreciated. :D

Get with me next time you see me, Ill get you several variation builds, that are pretty sweet. Inertial Dampners are huge. Particle generator is huge....weapons...not so much

Will do! I was playing around with a drain/torp boat build. I played with a Breen transphasic build and it was pretty dang fun, though seems a bit slow. May need to motify.

Want to play a science toon...easy, make it a tact and get some good science stations..

Where are you at with it Irish? I have a science toon that I have done nothing with. He was a dilithium grinder and that was all. As time permits, I would love to try and work him up some gear for the fleet Atrox at some point.

Right now I'm playing with the drain build. Maxed out particle generators, etc. with my skills. Adding that with a tachyon 3 and 5 consoles to up my particle generators (love that Voth Palisade) and it does some serious draining. Won't drain a cube COMPLETELY on Elites, but it does do significant amounts just with those and no weapons. So my idea was running whatever shield and energy drains I could while spamming out a torpedo build. That way, I can keep my weapon energy level to the lowest base 25 (since torpedo damage is set and not based on energy levels) and max out Aux for my science abilities and healing. And with things like Fleet Alert it's proving quite effective at grouping up ships with a massive strong Grav Well and letting their exploding friends deal a significant amount of damage. It has been really tricky and I still need to get used to the different piloting, but it's not useless either. In fact, outside the Elite stuff it's wicked and even in Elite it's not bad at all (just needs serious refinement). Did a Fleet Alert last night and it was amazing how fast the groupings were exploding with my grav well and torpedo bombardment and drainage galore. The big thing that's bothering me is how weak the transphasic torps are, even with the firing every 1.5 seconds from DOFFs. I can see them being really effective on something with more than 2 tactical consoles (like that juicy looking Fleet Recon Science ship with 4 tactical consoles and 4 science). But unfortunately the Palisade is limited in tacticals so I'm thinking of trying a photon build. When I get my reps up, I plan to get the proton arsenal set from Dyson in order to get the +22.9% photon torpedo damage and group it with the +20% torpedo damage from Adapted Maco. +42.9% photon damage without any tactical consoles added in seems really tempting.

I do miss the spam fire of hell from my escorts sometimes but this science stuff is really great with team work. Stripping shield and energy, debuffing the enemy, and grouping them together so that everyone can shred. I'm not much one for playing a healing roll so an aggressive science has proven quite fun for me. :)

I've heard some great things about the Fleet Atrox and since several of you are pretty awesome carrier pilots, you'd probably kick serious butt in it.

Actually, when you think about it Irish, that build is actually a HUGE compliment to a good tactical officer. You go in and drain their shields and group them together where ever there is a group of enemy to deal with. The tact officer then comes in with the fire at will III and a torp volley of my own, followed up by a turning broadside attack with the cruiser type of ship or even a carrier ship with its elite pets going to town..should make quick work out of it.

Yea, I might have to get the fleet Atrox when it comes out. To do that though, I really need to start repping up my Science toon..here we go again..at least this time, I will have some chips from the my main toon to help him along..

Yeah, I noticed when I ran a recent trifecta with ya'll how fast some ships were being thrashed with all the added kinetic damage from everyone. The shield drains with the dozen beam arrays were wicked to watch! Solo has been quite a bit more tricky but with a good team it's been excellent support. It's weird to fly without having the frame of mind of attacking head first with everything like I would my escort but instead actually time my support with you all.

I'm now really excited to try this photon build because it appears the bio-molecular photon is making a comeback in the upcoming Undine rep system.

Enforcer, I think you were talking about doing a control scientist that uses stuff like Gravity Well. Dude, you absolutely need to get a purple gravimetric scientist DOFF. This ability is just insane useful.

Yea, I was after a control, placate type of build with my sci toon. So, on the science ship, I was running with grav well III, subnuc III and sensor scan III, along with some force feedback, a repulsor, a photonic fleet and a viral matrix as my main science abilities. I also had the reduce cooldown on abilities with the photonic ability. I read to you last night the duty officers I have in my employ including the grav scientist already of which I can only equip one.

On the odyssey I was trying last night, I lose the grav well completely, unless I retrain one of the bridge officers to have a grav well II and a grav well III so I can have one with the odyssey AND any science ship. What I need is the Atrox to have elite pets running around helping me out..
