No, I purchased online.

Hmm, if I bought the disc why wouldn't I be able to pop the game into my computer and play it...like every other game.

I can still play, instead of just clicking on my DoD:S icon I first end the steam process in task manager, then click on my icon...no big deal. I want to understand why this is occurring.

Once installed and the key of the game attached to your steam account you no longer need the disc, meaning its not like BF games where they will have an interface when the disc autoruns to choose to launch the game. DoD is launched through Steam. So buying a disc won't help. It will make for quicker reinstalls because you won't have to download :).

I'm wondering if you set up Steam to not load on boot. That way Steam isn't running to begin with. It seems like you have an issue at startup.
