Glad you got your modem working properly now! :)

System ideas?

Here's one

Here's a couple more...

Of course you gotta build those yourself or get someone to do it for you. And they both include the price of monitors/OSes (which you may or may not need). But it's a good place to start?

Or you could always go & look at some Dell Dimension XPSes for the already-built-for-ya solution. :D

Stay away from boutique companies like Alienware and Falcon Northwest, as they are overpriced. Also, I would not recommend DELL for reasons of upgradeability.

Building your own PC is a rewarding experience. It saves you money, and you get more bragging rights than any Alienware could earn, at least among serious enthusiasts.

Thats an opinion, although building PCs can be rewarding and educational.
You may encouter problems and compatability issues. When order form ALienware, Dell, Gateway, etc., there is a feeling of certainty and quality from most companies.

Most give out great deal on accessories and other items, such as free RAM, CD Drive, and Moniter upgrades. Alienware right now is giving out a 17" LCD, Printer, and Speakers for $99.

$1700... hmm. That is quite a bit of money actually. You could probably get a Pentium 4 (or Pentium D) over 3.4GHz although I do not recommend it since it has enormous heat and power consumption problems, or a Athlon 64 3500 or higher. And you could probably also get 1GB or more of OC RAM, a spankin new case and a spankin new videocard, go for X800 or 6800 or higher. And on top of all that you could probably get a 200GB or more hard drive and a rewritable DVD drive.

See how much $1700 can buy

You could also go for Dual-Core CPUs.
