So far, I am thinking of getting the power supply

and this graphics card

after discussing with my Computer engineering teacher, he decided to help me with the whole installation process.

can anyone tell me which power supply my emahiches t6542 uses as I am at school and cannot open it up.

Fulcrum, I have this one:

http://www.tigerdire...a...&CatId=1560

It works flawlessly, BF2 1280x1024, 32bit, most settings on high, very smooth.

I first bought an ATI Radeon X1650 pro, It was Dead, the computer wouldn't even boot. I have some ATI cards in the other computers in the house and they're ok though, they just had minor driver malfunctions from time to time. Just seems to me that the Nvidia cards are less prone to problems.

Sorry but LMAO. Have a read at these two forums,

http://forums.guru3d.com/index.php

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/

and tell me Nvidia doesn't have problems. All things considering from what I have seen from a lot of people with 8800 series cards, makes me real glad I can't afford one.

As for the card you linked too, I have the exact same one and it runs BF2 just fine, and even better after todays new Nvidia driver release.

Man Stormy, after reading that I am glad I can't afford one either. :D

My fastest PC with the latest video card is, Bluestar2's has an AMD 64 X2 4600 and a Nvidia 7950GT. My other 2 kids have ATI 9800 pro's, and they work fine after the latest drivers were installed.

About the power supply, I can't figure out what eMachines uses, their tech support page was pretty sorry. It is a micro ATX case, so I assume it would take a regular ATX power supply.

I am running 8 PC's, 1 Intel and 7 AMD's, at home and they all have at least 600w Thermaltake power supplies.
Now, this one have here at work, with all my leftover parts, AMD 2400+, ATI Radeon 9700pro w/7 fans in a server tower has only a 400 watt generic supply and I haven't had any troubles with the card or the supply. I don't game on it though.

after searching the internets for about an hour, I found out that the stock Emachines power supply is ATX

If thats the case, then I like the power supply you chose up there ^^^^

Hey guys...those emachine power supply's are weird...make sure it will fit the case before buying...I don't think they are standard ATX forms!

this is the stock power supply for the emachines T series
http://parts.emachin...roduct_Id=69081
Dimensions: 5.9 W x 3.4 H x 5.5 D - Inches
5.9 inch = 14.986 centimeter
3.4 inch = 8.636 centimeter
5.5 inch = 13.97 centimeter

the one i'm getting

15cm(W)x8.6cm(H)x16cm(L)

everything is pretty much the same, just one guy wanted to round off.

I'm starting to get good at this research thing :P

thanks guys

Mid 30's low 40's, with the occasional dip to the high 20's when there is lots of smoke.

and is the x1950 pro any better, and if so by how much

A few things to consider about that,

1. the memory on the cards does not get added together (that's like saying a 2.0 ghz dual core cpu operates at 4 ghz)

2. a 1600 Pro isn't powerful enough to use 512 mb of vram, it isn't even fast enough to take advantage of 256 mb

3. a single 1950 Pro will be almost twice as fast as 2 1600 Pro's in Crossifre

also have a look here,

http://www.guru3d.co.../content/360/9/

that is comparisons of the 1600 Pro (both a single card, and in crossfire) against a 7300GT and a 1800GTO; and in almost every test the single 1800GTO is faster than the crossfired 1600's. Another thing to consider is that the 1950 Pro is almost twice as fast as the 1800GTO.

Stormy posted that in another thread. It really helped me in my decision.

I'd say for what he has in that system, that looks about right.

The only other problem I've seen with this card is that the AA only goes up to x6, while some other cards can do x8. But with the AA set that high it would probably take a killer rig to pull it off right.

:edit: though if your like me and don't put the res any higher the 1024x768 you'll get better performance then that.
