Update. The lag may be caused by my net provider's chosen route to Moon. I was on dslreports.com last night to do some testing on my line and I noticed something very strange. My IP was right fooked. Normally it is something like 64.230.135.1. That is the IP i've had since I signed on with Sympatico years ago (at least the first 2 numbers). When I did a line test earlier in the day it was the same IP. However, last night after I left the game I went back to do another test and saw that my IP is totally diff.. Now it is 67.71.153.78 (or something like it). The good thing is that when I played Moon with the new IP I had less or no log most of the time. What I want to know is if this IP switch is normal?

The other thing I noticed, and this I never knew, the 64.230.*.* is in Windsor, Ontario and not in Ottawa where I am. The new IP is Toronto, Ontario.

Finally, does anyone know if the first number in an IP is the country code?

It is normal for ISP to switch your IP address. Don't worry about that.
There are five classes of available IP ranges: Class A, Class B, Class C, Class D and Class E. While only A, B and C are commonly used. Each class allows for a range of valid IP addresses. Below is a listing of these addresses.

Class A 1.0.0.1 to 126.255.255.254 Supports 16 million hosts on each of 127 networks.
Class B 128.1.0.1 to 191.255.255.254 Supports 65,000 hosts on each of 16,000 networks.
Class C 192.0.1.1 to 223.255.254.254 Supports 254 hosts on each of 2 million networks.
Class D 224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255 Reserved for multicast groups.
Class E 240.0.0.0 to 254.255.255.254 Reserved.

Ranges 127.x.x.x is reserved for loopback tests, for example 127.0.0.1. Ranges 255.255.255.255 are used to broadcast to all hosts on the local network.

If you want to know generally where a IP is geographically located then go here. Link

Hope that helps, bro! ;)

Thanks Lead :-D . That was the site I found last night. It seems that the IP switch is working for me. So far almost zero lag today. Hope it stays that way.

To delete SP2 just go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and then scroll down to SP2 and click remove.

Lead or DD do you guys know what the "Gold" version of XP is? Is it the first release of XP or is it the XP Pro version that has a gold finish on it? I read on one of the forums that SP1 and SP1a changed the way that XP manages memory for the worse. The same thread said that if you go from XP Gold to SP2 without the SP1s in between it leaves the better memory management alone. Any thoughts on this one?

Here is a link that talks about this. I still can't find the one I found before. BTW, from what I can see, it just means the first pre-SP1 versions of XP cds.

When you hear a certain software version is "gold" or it is the "gold code" it just means its passed beta and is basically the code sent to manufacturing.

I am sorry I can't tell you from first hand experience because I went from xp pro - sp1-sp2. I would imagine it would be best to do it in that order but who knows. It wouldn't shock me if he was right but I just don't know.

I have the full version of PCMark2004. I tested my box before and after SP2.

SP1: 3481
SP2: 3476

The difference is within a margin of error. I can't say that SP2 is any faster or slower than SP1 in any normal day to day use.

P.S. Go to www.futuremark.com to download demo versions of PCMark04 and/or 3DMark03. I think 3DMark05 is coming out in a couple of weeks.
