How to set front pc mic to work

Hi guys, I have as a present a new headset with microphone, but cable is too short to conect it to back of PC, I conected it to the front but mic does not work, Ive changed setings at conteol panel to front mic but still nothing,  what i am doing wrong ?  I use XP 

 

Any help will be highly apreciated.

You may have to go inside the computer to change the mic wire from back to front. I had to do that on my last machine.

Theres alot of info involved here. Please see this video about the speaker and audio connections.

 

 

 

also within with xp go into your contrrol panel and change your settings like this;

 

To select an audio input device

1.

Open Speech in Control Panel.

2.

On the Speech Recognition tab, click Audio Input.

3.

Select either Use preferred audio input device or Use this audio input device.
