Battlefield 1942 has always been very vast and requires real keen eyes.

I've been playing it and mods since 2002, but now I've come to wonder, is there a way to hide chat..? It easily gets in the way..

dunno if you can ignore all the chat.

try this in the console:

chat.ignoreList

chat.ignorelist unknown object or method..ah

EDIT: Yeh, the "list" MUST be "List" but it still didn't hide chats.

I believe there is a command in console that I works, but I can't remember it..

it was something like ` then .ignore * or .ignore #

I'll have to look it up now. hmm.

Be aware that should you ignore chat, you won't see admin warnings. As such you may be kicked "without warning". I'd advise you to read up on the rules before you ignore players ;)

Also, what is the command to show text again once it's been hidden?

dodgem !! Please don't hide the command from us, haha. I score, that's it.

I don't think there even is a command to hide the whole chat apart from 'hud 0' (hud 1 to get it all back). Only the one to ignore specific players.

This may work to simply reduce how much you see in the chat:

chat.ignoreRadioText 1/0

:)

If you're wanting to do this because of chat spam, please let us know who is spamming the chat and we'll take care of them.

Oh no not @ all. Not that I could track some BF1942 abuser down.

I'm referring to just general people chatting, they just won't let me see everything. Thanks for the tip dodgem, I shall report back soony enough.

Ah, it hides the radio messages. I take it it'd hide the voice messages, too ? English is the only language I know, :[ No matter, I was just curious if hiding chat was possible.

chat.OldChatListStyle 0 or 1 this will change back to the origianl type and location of the chat

chat.ChatMessageSize 1-12 you can change the size of the chat to make it much smaller or larger <~~~ this may work for your needs

to use the you must open your console with "`" and type them in... I'm not sure if you can set them in the profile cfg or not

I've turned off both radio and chat before.. but for the life of me I can't remember how.. I have an old console commands doc somewhere on this computer lol.. I remember being able to toggle it on and off as well. The catch is like the others have stated.. you're totally isolated and won't see admin text. I'll dig for it tonite.

You can change Stuff like that in your GeneralOptions.con .
You can find it in your BF-Folder under ...Mods/bf1942/settings/profiles/*ypurprofilename*/GeneralOptions.con

Lonewolf-McQuade, yes please search and let me know !!

DerRaucher, I noticed "0
chat.setTimeUntilMessageRemoved 5.000000" but yeh. I'm god awful with files that display horizontal rather than top to bottom.

I'm ridin' on ya Norris, I hope to toggle hide chat with ease as you did !

EDIT: Jeez, didn't even notice the old chat style. The kills, everything were mixed together. The chats were slightly higher but yeh I wish to hide toggle em off/on :[

I haven't been able to find it.. I'll try goofing in console once I'm on again.. I'm almost positive it can be done, but for now nothing to show. Sry man!

Hey sorry it took me a while.. but I found my old complete commands list from the earlier bf42 days..

Here are all of the chat commands:

chat.ChatMessageSize 1/12

chat.GameInfoMessageSize1/ #

chat.KillMessageSize 1/#

chat.setChatHistory
Sets the # of lines for all 3 message displays

chat.chatInfo

chat.OldChatListStyle 0/1
1=1.2 chat

chat.OldChatListHistory #

Here are the Ignore Commands:

chat.ignoreRadioText 0/1

chat.ignoreRadioAudio 0/1

chat.setIgnoreRadioAudioAndText 0/1

chat.getIgnoreRadioAudioAndText

chat.addToIgnoreList <user id>

chat.removeFromIgnoreList <user id>

chat.ignoreList

I knew it could be done with the ignore command sets, but it had been a while. I'd strongly suggest that you talk with admin about why you're doing it, because you don't want to miss an admin message and get kicked for it! That could easily happen if you turn all chat off. (maybe the yellow admin chat comes through still? that I don't know!)Good luck!
