I just came across this awesome project on another message board and thought that it was definitely worth giving a shout out to the Moonies to help out with. It's called Folding@Home and works to help with research into malfolding proteins, the major cause of many serious illnesses (Alzheimers, Mad Cow Disease, many forms of cancer).

The way it works is that you download the small client program from HERE and have it run as a background program while your PC is idling or you're not using all of it's potential. It downloads Work Units and carries out the calculations specified using your computer, then sends it back to the researchers.

I really encourage anyone who has the resources to do this (especially anyone who leaves their computer on when not using it) to get involved. It's something you can do without sacrificing money or time that can truly help in the fight against deadly diseases. If you do join in, please post and we'll see if we can make a Moongamers team (from what gather you basically get a group of people's work rates/totals compared to other groups').

Thanks everyone :)

I'm in. Now, how do we go about creating the Moongamers team? Nevermind. I'm on it.

Will this take up lots of space on my computer?

For me it uses a buttload of CPU, like 80 to 94 percent, but it doesn't seem to slow down my computer, and it uses very little RAM. It makes you feel really cool too, you can see the progress of it.

About 2.72MB. That's all.

Btw, I have set up the computers at my school to run Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI), and they have been running for 3 years now. It is nice to use the computer power for very useful stuff too.
