I thank all of you for providing valuable advice. I'v done it all. Lead further, lead less, shoot fuirther shoot shorter,

But alas...I radioed enemy piostion too much...and finally asked a player to not badmouth admin...then banned.

I guess...that sometimes...you aren't for a game. Maybe an admint gets a little edgy, a bit overzealous. MAybe my comments got offensive...not sure how. Even asked this admin to go to team speak and he refused...dont know why he is so Angry.

I really try hard...I really care. Yep I get frustrated....sometimes it's just me and sometimes it's the clique. Sorry...I been banned. Too bad ...I JUST bought a new joystick too. DAMMIT.

You'll be able to use your new joystick tomorrow. Check your unban request.

Maybe you'll turn into a decent pilot and are able to give airsupport to the ground troops. I'd appreciate that.

I most certainly will try to be a better pilot!

(and sorry about last night. Lapse in good gamesmanship and judgement.)

And no worries if not, I can't fly at all (just into the next tree or hill).

Again, if you have any questions, post here or send me a PM. Most questions you had can be answered easily.

See you later on the battlefield.

Are there even any pilots left? I miss flying, especially times when i would take it seriously and totally get in the zone.? it was always great to have people on the ground like Anger who called out enemy locations. And to have a wingman that would assist in a dogfight was always a blessing. Last people I got to fly with that were even 'decent' were people like Maverik and Javo. I can't find the time to reinstall or even the desire to play, really. Maybe that will change. I miss getting 2v1ed in the air against two solid pilots only to come out on top. ☺ good times, good memories.

At the moment, it feels like a totally unbalanced sky. I'm lucky if there is one good pilot on my team. Most of the time it feels there isn't. It really gets bad when two very good guys supporting each other on the other team (* waving angry fist at Bot and Raptor).

If two friends are on opposite teams and NOT shooting each other please take them off the server until they feel like supporting their team instead of their BFF.

Thank you.

With the "other" team, I meant "two good guys on the enemy team (my opponnents)". It wasn't about two guys on different teams not shooting each other. Just to clarify...

The best advise I can offer a player who is struggling:

1. Ping over approx. 175... stay in armor

2. Adjust your mouse sensitivity in settings to very low. otherwise you end up flailing around trying to target your enemies.

3. Flying... I don't fly usually... but it appears the joystick is the way to go unless your using b17 or bombers... I'm a mouser :)

Flying with a mouse is very doable. I've never used a joystick and I consider myself to be a pretty decent pilot in 1942. In fact I would go so far to say there are only a handful of people left that could shoot me down. It just takes time to get the hang of, as does a joystick. However, if you are a good mouse pilot going up against a good joystick pilot, you will definitely be at a disadvantage when it comes to turning/continuous maneuverability.

tried the mouse but is not as good as a mid qlty joystick.

Pilots must atend all calls for support,  sadly many do not,  just wait high to see a pilot that care for his team and just dive on it, it happens to me many times, but im old to change,  will cont to give air suport.

Altitude is key, though. However, ceiling flying is pointless. To be a bit into the clouds is the perfect balance between keeping a practical distance to strike enemy positions in a timely manner yet still maintaining an altitude which offers cover from flak and enough room to gain airspeed if needed in a dogfight.

Aha.

I checked the site and saw this and thought I would post.  Hi to everyone I know.

1. Get rid of the trackball. Like immediately.  Like in the next two seconds.

2. BF42 plays best on ME (it was optimized the best for that OS but XP is almost as good).

3. If you're using ME or XP then there are a bunch of steps you should take to optimize (like defragging, there was a post by the head of that Aberdeen tank clan (EA 10?) that had all that info but I'm too lazy to look for it, but you probably have a newer operating system so it shouldn't matter).

4. Ping is king.  60 is fine. You should be fine with anyone with a ping between 15 and 140ish but if you're in an infantry battle with someone with a ping below 15 then you will probably have trouble. If someone's ping is over 150 then you and they will start having issues almost equivalent (almost!) to the warping in pre-2000 games.

5. There has never been any damage hacks.  Damage is server side.  Your opponent can hack the shit out of you but if you're standing behind someone and shooting them in the back then you or they are causing or experiencing a problem but you're not missing them because of something like a no-damage hack.

6. Don't bother getting super serious as a pilol You should just do it for fun.  If an old schooler comes on and cornholes you then you're just going to get frustrated.  You got the game too late.

7. If you're playing as infantry then at this point when you go up against someone good then you're playing against someone who has close to 5000 hours of experience. What do you think is going to happen.  They are also probably younger than you and have faster reflexes.

8. Get in a tank. Tanking is the most ping forgiving. There are the fewest hacks in the game for land vehicles than for infantry weapons or planes. Because probably so few really good pilots are playing you probably won't have to worry a lot about getting steamrolled by an alt-whore which used to be worst thing that could happen to you in a tank..

9. You should be able to get really good in a tank quicker than you can get good in a plane or as infantry.  When you're on the server and there's not very many people playing, ask a tank whore stuff like what the weak spots of the tanks are. You should be able to one-shot kill anything with the Tiger, the M10 or the mother of all tanks which is the cute orange one on Kursk. Since you say that you're older, tanking is an older player's game. If you took the age range of the best players in the first five years of the game, then top tankers were probably 10 years older than either infantry or pilots.  There's a lot of reasons for that. There were a lot of 14 year-old all stars playing as pilots or infantry and almost none as tankers.

10. Turn off your sound.  It makes you better.

11. Change the color of your crosshairs, preferably to a color like purple.  If it works for Barney it can work for you.

12. Change the pick-up kit key to "G".

and most importantly, lucky number

13. Stop giving a shit what the game on your monitor looks like.  Play at the lowest possible graphic settings (the game should look like the Flintstones). Turn off every other thing that is designed to make the game look good.  A lot of the code for the original 1942 is terrible and sloppy and you really don't need to admire the twilight on Gazala. If it looks shitty it will play better.

Good luck.

Totally disagree on turning the sound off... Sound is directional... It helps orient you when being fired upon and you hear vehicles and planes closing...

exactelly,  I have found many snipers by hear they shooting.  Also what can be better than dive into a bunch of infantary and hear your plane gun spiting  bullets towards them ?  or the explotion of 2 or more vehicles !

I think that experience in the game is a must so remember, that guys you see in game that are awesome started as a noob and after years of gaming became skilled players,  so keep trying.

Dude...I think you are SO spot on. Some people forget they were noobs at one point! And...they don;t really want to take on a student.

I've been playing for about 3-4 years now...and at first it was fun. THEN I got serious.l THEN I got overly serious. Only recently did I get back to fun.

Yes there are some tricks to learn- like know your ping versus lead time- move around to refresh and keep from being target. ....but the internet mechanics may be too much to overcome. So...just DIE...and have fun.

Some people CAN kill you in two random shots as you are both moving randomly,  Get over it. Rwspawn and go get is azz!

Great stuff ,  I will gladly suffer as the last player using a inadequate trackball to attack 1942.

Matched with a Mirc Stealth keyboard..   I love it.

To capitalize on that combination.  I bind everything and recommend that.

The first two are pistol and reload.   Both of those sit on my trackball for fast execution.  Common weapon switches are all to the right of my index finger.  Veiw toggles are just above that.  My left hand never shifts on the keyboard and even my pinky finger has 3 or 4 keys bound to it.

My suggestion for a new player, abandon defaults and hone your bindings to exactly what you prefer.  If there is any hesitation or hunting on the keyboard..  you are not there yet.

Posi...suggestion duly noted. Will attend to that ASAP!
