I'm conflicted as to which mouse to buy. Should I get the MX518 optical mouse, or should I get the G5 laser mouse? I can get the MX518 for $38, and I can get the G5 for $48.

Is laser really worth it?

518...the cord was a pain so I just taped it with enough slack to function fine without any further hassle.

I don't trust cordless for gaming. That's what I had before and it makes a difference. Also, the number and placement of buttons on the 518 is superior to the other models. I love the 2 thumb buttons. One is my TS push to talk, the other my sprint button in BF2.

Go G5 for sure. Read the review at Toms Hardware.

No real difference....

G5 = Corded
G7 = Cordless

Depends on your preference.

I don't think you can go wrong with either one. We have two 518 and one 510 in our household and we love them. Never played with a G5.

Bill

PS I understnad that Razor has a "hot" mouse also.

I would not get a G5 or G7, the battery life on them is so low.

Unless you have an ample supply of rechargeable batteries, I would get a mouse with a cord.

Man you guys really need to read the articles. G7 comes with a recharge dock and 2 li-ion batteries so you don't actually go out and buy batteries, . I use a mx-1000 laser I didn't know about these mice when I bought mines and it lasts a couple of days without a recharge.

I know most hardcore gamers prefer corded mice but the G7 is 2.4 ghz signal, so it pretty much lag free. And lasers are much more accurate than optical, but it takes getting used to because it is so sensitive.
Bottom line.. you really can't go wrong with any of these mice, the choice depends on your wallet.

I bought the G5...I don't trust wireless mouses. I know this one is supposed to have no lag, but can't go wrong with chord. Thanx for the input.

The G5 is a laser WIRED mouse and does not use batteries. The G7 is the WIRELESS version and does use batteries. I agree that using a wireless mouse is sometimes glitchy and does not offer smooth consistent game play.

I have always used Logitech mice and had no problems with them. I had used the MX 500 series for many years and recently purchased the new G5. This is a great mouse, very accurate and with the added feature of being able to customize its weight.

I am sure there are other devices out there that are equal or better.
