Hey all, I recently bought Counter Strike Source + DoD and Half Life 2. Anyways I was all happy only to find out that I have horrible fps. It is literally impossible to play. I doubt it's my internet connection because it's cable. Can anyone tell me the problem? I'm almost positive it's the video card though so any help on choosing a new video card will be appreciated since video cards is one of my weaknesses in computers. Here are my specs:

2. Pentium 4 - 2.39 Ghz
3. 760 ram(upgraded)
4. I'm a video card newbie so here's a screenshot :D

5. 40gb total, 8.78 left
7. Win XP pro

So I guess the video card is the problem. Does a real video card have to be that expensive? I got sixty five bucks in my wallet and maybe I could get a bit more(I'm selling my bed).

(I'm selling my bed).

 ...You might need to sell more than your bed.

For now, you could run the game with it's lowest settings.

if you want something cheap, go to Newegg and get a radeon 9600 (256 mb)
it's only like 70 bucks, and it runs bf2 on medium and cs source on high. that's what i did since i don't have the cash for a top of the line card.

Yeah You cannot run the game with that card. Go to newegg. You can find a good card cheap!!! Give us a max price and I will find a good card.

Ok I sold my bed now I need help on choosing an expensive video card... :P

Actually no it does not run it with the lowest settings, it has like 1 fps. Thanks secchione I think I'll get that one since it's cheap and it also suns bf2.

As for the people making fun of my video card...
:butt: Where is the love?

EDIT: My max price would be 74 dollars.

What kind of computer is it...is it dell? We need to know what slots you have in your computer!

You probaly just have pci...no agp or pci-e....not good. Not sure you can upgrade...?

It will be either a AGP or PCI slot, kinda of important to know at this point. Also some one much wiser than I will have to tell you that you will need to go into the BIOS and disable the built in video chip. All of this should be in your users manual that came with the system.

I agree with Secc on the card for the money, get the 9600 first then move up from there. This time next year you will be installing one twice as good and the cost for it will be driven down by the improvements made during the year. Personally, because of cost I am a year behind because of pricing.

Good luck,

Bill

BTW, you could put what I know about computers in the head of a needle, lol.

Using a pci card it pointless. Especially for cs an bf2...

Completely untrue. It may not have the bandwidth of an AGP or PCI-E slot, but it's still more than adequate for a card to run CS... not BF2, though.

DAM!

Any way to update a motherboard to hold agp/pci-e? Dam... i already know the answer... :(

About how much does a motherboard with pci-e/agp slots cost? Uhh w/o the processer... if the processer is even on the motherboard... hope not, i don't feel like pulling a computer chip apart...

And which is better, pci-e or agp?

sorry for hijacking your thread... heh... :spam1:

btw: i've got nvidia g force 4 right now... 2800+ AMD Athlon XP processor... don't tease me!
