I got this idea some time ago, and now I want to share it with you all.

Right now it is just an idea from me and nothing else.

I mainly want to hear opinions about this, if anyone is interested, or if this just is a thing that won’t ever take off.

USA vs. The World - Moon MEGA BF1942 competition match.

How about … Before Battlefield 1942 finally dies, to try and gather people to participate in something that most of us have never tried before. A big, open to all, competition match. There won't be anything to win other than fun, entertainment and honor.

A BF1942 CQ match on a standard map with at least 20 players per team (hopefully close to 32 per team). Players from USA on one team against players from the rest of the world on the other team.

We could start off by trying to set up one match, One standard CQ map, maybe on Moon’s Mostly CQ server ? In about 14 days from now, and if it becomes a success, repeat it one week later with another map, and so on.

Maybe every second match could be hosted on a European server to make up for the ping advantage that “team USA” would have on a Moongamers server.

This would differ from clan matches in the way that (as far as I have understood) clan matches almost never have more than 10 players per team, and that anyone would be able to join this match.

This would also differ from regular play at any given day on the main Moongamers BF1942 server (called TDM) by that the emphasis in this match would be on winning, teamwork, and to destroy the other team, and not have half the team being snipers, plus mostly inactive people that just goof around.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following are my proposed details that are just suggestions, and which all can be changed if necessary.

When : Sunday August 7th 2011 - 4 PM Eastern time.

Server : Moon Mostly CQ, passworded and with teambalance off.

How to Join : Some kind of signing up process, somewhere on Moongamers site. Anyone would be able to sign up.

Competition format : Two rounds on the map, each team plays one round as axis and one round as allies. Final ticket count from round 1 and 2 are added, and highest ticket count wins the match.

Map : Market Garden CQ, the one from the TDM server.

Teams : One team of players from the USA, one team from the rest of the world (including Canada). At least 20 people per team. Tags like [USA] and [World] could be mandatory.

Rules : The same as on TDM

Admins : Should probably be present, playing admins, and / or just admins.

Opinions ? lame, not interested, interested, great idea ?

Not to throw a wet rag but the EU players may be at a ping disadvantage. It's a great idea that I hope comes to life...

One issue: Ping

Otherwise it's a great idea. If you can get the Euro's to agree (or find a server in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean), then I'm all in.

Like i stated above :

"Maybe every second match could be hosted on a European server to make up for the ping advantage that “team USA” would have on a Moongamers server."

And we could go even further to say that each map gets played 2 rounds first on a moon / us server, then one week later, that same map gets played for 2 rounds at a euro server

I can provide a euro server that is only ping 93 away from Washington DC ..... a server in my home in Denmark ... i have had a bf 1942 server running for long times ...

It is powerful, stable and is fiber connected, and i know all about setting up servers and battlefield 1942 server manager 2.0

Sounds like fun, I would love to crush this nonsense 80-100 ping advantage crap too with Euro servers. I only played the game for the first 3 years on Euro servers. Count me in.

I admit it won't be as bad, but hear this:

Some years ago, back when SoV was still doing seasonal 8v8 leagues, there was a team from the big Australian server. We played matches against them by doing the same thing you are proposing, one round here, one round there. Needless to say the victor wasn't determined by skill of any sorts. The delay was so extreme that it was simply who had better luck, and whoever won the round on their server (which they did easily) by more tickets got their server for round 3. The "foreign" team was so easily outmatched by the local server crew.

I'd have to give the clear winner of this already to the world. The european players who would be playing in this (most likely), already play on US based servers because of the population in servers such as Moongamers' main BF1942 server. They might lose the round, but not by much. However, I would guess that most US players have not tried Euro servers. Yes, there are exceptions, but the majority of the USA team would be unable to hit a target while the good Euro players would completely destroy them.

it really isn't very important who wins or loses this match or matches .... right now there is about 70 % chance that it won't ever become reality .... if it does, and we against all odds can start doing this every sunday ... shifting back and forth on euro and us servers, we can always start tweaking teams and advantages, if dominance becomes too one-sided .... the first match will primarily be a fun-match .... at least that is how i see it ...

the very first step will be to hopefully get a moongamers server to host this .... i have asked the core admins about this, but haven't gotten a reply yet ---

That does sound like fun. I'm in.

Sorry for being a total debby downer there lol. When fun is the intent people don't care as much about win/loss. Sometimes though, when a team cares about winning/losing and gets dominated, it can be an incredibly horrible result. Especially if the opposing team thinks its hilarious to aggressively spawn rape everyone on the team that has already lost by win/loss standpoints (severe ticket disparity and little time left).

As far as server goes, we used to have a match server specifically there for competition/pugs/scrims where we hosted a multitude of matches on over the years. I have no idea what it's current status is, however, so you will have to wait to hear back from Core about it.

I remember that match. We won it lol. We agreed to play two three rounds at the same time. Both teams put three players on each team then we took the difference of the two.

I do have to agree with No guts. It would be very difficult to get 40+ players to all be on at the same time. Very difficult. But if you can pull it off good on you. Maybe if I am around I will help out my fellow USA buds :D. USA! USA!

in case moongamers can't provide a server, is there any of you gamers ( or just anybody ) out there, who are willing to set up a bf1942 server that we can use ?

preferably ( not a must ) :

a separate / dedicated powerful pc
fiber connection
knowing how to set up a bf1942 server and using bf1942 server manager 2.0 ( it's very easy actually )
location : us east coast or close to us east coast.

like i wrote before; i have already offered to set up one of the pc's in my home as a bf942 server, for those euro-server rematches
