Hi all,

I'm posting a link to my Flickr gallery containing photos of my visit to Normandy last weekend.

The first set of photos are of the Eurostar train which carried me from London to Paris, and the Caen War Memorial. Caen is a city some 200km from Paris which was bombed out over 80% during WW2 and the setting of the BF1942 map Liberation of Caen. Originally the Allies had hoped to capture the town on D-Day (June 6), but it took until July 9th in reality.

The first beach is Gold Beach where there are the remains of the British artificial harbors. Then it is the American cemetery near Omaha Beach, with a few shots of the beach from the cemetery. I was lucky enough to find the grave of Frank Peregory, a US Army officer who received the Medal of Honor. The building with the flags inside is the on-site chapel. My last few photos from the cemetery show the wall of the Missing. After the Sherman tank, which was parked near Omaha, are German machine gun nests. Then we went down to the beach, lots of pictures from there. The final stop was Pointe du Hoc, where the Rangers scaled the cliffs to capture German 155mm guns (which the Germans had moved prior to the landing). You can still see a lot of craters caused by Allied shelling and aerial bombardment.

Hope these are interesting.
