Fact?
I think this is nice fiction. The range of a Bf109e3 was about 660 km. That distance means that on a straight and level flight, the plane could fly to Waterford, Ireland from France, theoretically. However, the fuel consumption on emergency warpower settings would not allow nearly such a range after engaging in combat manuvers.
Bf109s had a 15 minute operational time over London, much closer to the French airfields than Ireland. Assuming engagement over southern Wales (much further away from German bases than London) the Bf109 would have run out of fuel over St. George's Channel, never reaching Ireland.

My second best movie ever !! great analogy with the pigeon flying to the sky as his soul....
It will happen to us all some day, and I hope at that time I can acept the fact im leaving with same courage and calm as he.
