I have no idea of any program on my comp that would make the computer restart on its own. Any ideas ?

This could be from a networked computer trigger or router trigger.
Kinda like how you choose if mouse or keyboard being touched turns it on or not except more options.
Shutdown may be set to a sleep mode setting rather then a full on shutdown?
Or the fun possibility.
Someone is turning your computer on or your sleep walking.

Power settings. I believe there might be some that have a force computer on option?

My power setting is on "shutdown" and I can't find anything else that would effect it.

BIOS Setting maybe? I believe there is a setting in BIOS Power Options menu "Wake on LAN" if "enabled" may wake your computer up after you shut it down? Drove my brother crazy a year ago with a similar issue. His computer was not 100% shutting down even though he was hitting shutdown. Computer was waking up with that option enabled. I'm no expert of course. Just remember something similar.
I did a quick google search for "wake on lan" and found this........WOL ONLY works for Ethernet (i.e. hard-wired) connections, NOT Wireless
I've been using a wireless connection, so I don't think thats the problem. Even if it is, after reading about how to change the setting I've decided to leave well enough alone and just make sure I turn off my power strip. Thanks for the info though.

Do you REALLY expect me to know wtf your talking about, let alone know how to check it ?!?!?!?How about a weak CMOS battery or corruption in the CMOS settings.
Thanks, but if the problem is something like that, I'll live with it.

p.s. The Dell computer was purchased new a year or so ago if that makes any difference.
