Haven't gamed since Thanksgiving. Locked up on multiplayer so I re-did the 1.61b patch. (It says I have version 1.6.101) Now I can see the server list but when I pick a server the map takes about 3 - 4 minutes to load. If I esc out is crashes. I just reloaded and same issue is occurring. Currently using the workaround of adding server IP's to the command lines for the servers I use most. "+joinServer 162.210.196.6:14567". Any help would be appreciated.
Map load takes 5 minutes.

I recommend the quick fix from Simple to restore your server browser.
http://team-simple.o...patch_v1.61.exe
Links to original EA patches can be found here. I fought to keep a CD version running a long time myself. I play on Abandonware or Origin both patched with the .exe above. My opinion is that they are slightly less trouble than CD version. Abandonware links that are listed are generally all the same. Some offer a patched Punkbuster installation when installing the game. Some include the game manual in the zip. All will include a data.bin file ( the game ) and a setup.exe file ( the launcher ). Both of those files must be downloaded and the Setup file must be launched from the same location that the .bin file is in.
An abandonware version of the game

Optionally , if you insist on keeping your CD install you could try swapping out maps that do not load.
RTR and SW are also available as Abandonware.

I have tried that patch, the browser works but all maps load slowly. It has something to do with the hosts file for gamespy.
If I point to:
65.112.87.186 master.gamespy.com
65.112.87.186 master0.gamespy.com
from simple the browser works but the maps load slowly.
If I point to:
109.71.69.254 master.gamespy.com
from Moon's Facebook page the browser is broken and I have to use the +joinServer work around.
Maybe I'll go away from the CD version as you suggested.
Edit: PC specs - Windows 7 64-bit SP1, AMD Athlon II X4 620 Processor, 4.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660

I was informed that the I.P. changed recently.
Currently listed as ' 94.23.196.155 ' on Ax website. This information must have been edited/updated.
I can verify that my host file has the same I.P. , a copy and paste is below.
94.23.196.155 master.gamespy.com
My thoughts were to gather screen shots of a typical installation and update and elaborate on different OS types. They could be spaced apart in a brief video with links. A Comprehensive help guide means a MAC user. I've been looking for a MAC user to install and send me a few screenshots.
Thankyou for pointing out incorrect/dated information. That page is now updated.

It's not dead when I look at it. Google Drive is meant for private files. It isn't the perfect link for public sharing. However, I'm not fond of the other large file download services.
My G-drive link was a quick swap when the largest Abandonware site dropped Battlefield from their available downloads.
Why did they do this? I don't know. I emailed them, "It's broke and won't be relisted" was the only response. Noticing now two I.P. changes on the Master Server I can speculate that this alone could have been the reason.
I have two Abandonware packages on my google drive for preservation. This is the other one which includes MAC support and Punkbuster.

Two Abandonware sites still list Battlefield 1942 for download.
This site is fairly new but has nice presentation and isn't plagued with ads or misleading downloads.
https://abandonwareg...attlefield-1942
The first widespread Abandonware release still exist with 47'000 downloads. It is a two part download.

Root files can also be found on Simple's web site.
Any abandonware install should be followed with the gamespy patch or manually patching your host file.
Final word. Those of us who tried to lend a hand with distributing information when Gamespy collapsed didn't have choices. The replacement master server was much needed just to prevent the server browser from freezing. It was the only viable solution at the time. EA would have sent the players to gameranger who had made an effort to host the game but were not prepared to host communities. 333 Networks continues work on their Gamespy Master Server solution and the code is open source. Optionally, a user could use that Master Server to repair the server browser in game and eliminate freeze. None of the top servers are currently sending heartbeats to them though so a list of favorites would also be needed.

Loaded the abandon-ware copy provided by Posi. Changed the IP of the hosts file myself. Did not load the 1.61 fix as that is what made my maps load slowly.
Works great, thanks.
