Installation: There are two types of install procedures for these custom maps.
1) Self extracting, this is when all you need to do is click the file and it installs for you (ie. Custom_map.exe). The self extracting maps are only from EA.
2) Self installing, this is when you need to unzip the file and place it in the right directory.
The majority of maps you install off the net will be self installing, meaning you will have to put it in the correct BF1942 directory. This is the default location for maps…
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Archives\bf1942\levels\
Once again, all you have to do is extract the .rfa file from the download (ie. custom_map.rfa) and place it inside the default folder. If you wish to delete the map, simply navigate to the default location and delete the file (ie. custom_map.rfa)
Make sure you follow that default location perfectly, or ir won’t work. Most common mistake, people forget the "mods" part or the "archives" part in the BF 1942 directory.
Custom maps will be automatically installed on your system when playing on the server when a custom map is run. However, you may wish to save download time while in the heat of battle by pre-installing custom maps. Here's how.
1) Download a custom map. Download to a known location. You may need to extract the map as most come zipped.
2) Take the .bsp file and paste it in the \Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\yoursteamaccountname\day of defeat source\dod\maps folder.
