Okay, to solve my sound card woes, I decided to go out and buy a good sound card and not half ass it. I went to Best Buy and bought Blaster X-fi, brought it back giggling like a school girl, opened the case up, and found out it was PCI (my powers of observation..Not so great). SO! Does anyone have any idea what a good soundcard is for an AGP computer?

AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port Interface) is a Graphic card thing. it was used only for video cards in older mobos.
how come you dont have pci slots? i dont think there is a motherboard that doesnt have at least three PCI. u probably have them full so you just have to take out something.
what kind of motherboard do you have?

I got the card in, and it works (OMFG YAY).

But my mic still doesn't work. It works on my father's computer, so I know it's not broken. It can pick up air hitting the microphone but not my voice. Grr...

It works.

^^I lied.

Go into your recording side of your volume controls and make sure its turned up all the way and possibly mic boost too. It just sounds like its down too far. Also make sure it is in fact the mic port not the line in that makes a HUGE difference. If you aren't sure try them all but usually they are pink. I can't see what it is on my gaming system but on my TS/ LAN server it is pink.

I think it was in the Line-In jack. But that's the only way it works! The Mic jack won't even recognize I have it.

Damn this.

From the Creative site

"Shared line-level analog Line/Microphone input via 6.35 mm (1/4-inch) stereo jack. Shared input selectable via dial with gain control for microphone."

From what I have found already there should be a control somewhere to turn it up. Looks like the line in and the mic share the same connector.

This is for the gamer edition if that is not what you have let me know and I will look for your actual card.

Blaster X-fi Xtreme Audio

It'd make sense if the two shared a port b/c if I mute my microphone, line in becomes available, and vice versa.

EDIT: Actually, it wouldn't make sense as I think the microphone had to be plugged into a speaker jack for it to work...

Blaster X-fi Xtreme Audio

Do yourself a real big favor and take that card back. Hate to tell you this but it is a major POS. All the Xtreme Audio basically is is a renamed/re-badged SB Live 24 bit/ Audigy SE. None of those cards can do sound processing (EAX, 3D, etc) in hardware as none of them have the hardware (EMU10K1/2 in the case of the SB Live/Audigy, the EMU20K2 (or whatever it is called on the X-Fi) in the case of the X-Fi) that the rest of the Audigy/X-Fi cards have, so as a result they have to do all processing in software.

Not only that in the case of the Xtreme Audio it does not have Game Mode that the rest of the X-Fis have, and uses a completely different driver package. Give this a read,

Seeing as you got it from Best Buy you also paid too much,

http://www.bestbuy.c...d=1156203598151

that same card on Newegg is going for $65.99,

Now if you can order from Newegg this would be a much better option,

http://www.newegg.co...N82E16829102006

currently going for $79.99 with a $30.00 MIR, and has all the features of the other X-Fi cards (minus the X-Ram, which is only on the Fatal!ty and Elite).

Saw you in TS earlier....... Can you let us know what you found out or what you had to do to remedy the problem in case someone else has the same thing?

Or were you on the other computer?

Hey Pest?

Hey Jason!!!

Fatal!ty stuff is overpriced just because of that "Fatal!ty" brand , theyre not better than regular ones.
I have SB live!, it does 5.1 and its perfect for gaming. its not AGP but works great. :P

I can get in TS just fine. I just can't speak to anyone which kind of limits the utility of TS.

Ahhhh ok........ anyways I still use my SB512 just a SB live with out the front ports. Works fine for me and it was cheap. 5.1 and all works and can even do a few sound morphs to make things interesting while gaming

Well, Stormy, unless it becomes unavoidable, I'll keep the card. Right now I'm not even using my damn microphone port and it won't pick up my headphones. So it might very well be unavoidable to return the card. Maybe there's something I'm missing =/

I just looked at various posted specs of the X-fi cards and not one of them says Direct-X supported.

You can send tomatoes my way but doesn't team speak need a fully direct-x card to function correctly?

Why would they not have made the new card compatible? This could be the whole problem....... I would say take it back tell them (demand) you want the Audigy I know those have no major issues like I have read about the X-Fi series.

Will they take it back after I've opened it and everything?

EDIT: regardless, I'll try tomorrow. Thanks very much for everyone's help in the matter.

Most of the time Best Buy will take things back, as long as you have the box and all the things that came with it. I worked part time at our local one and we had a good bit of open box things on the shelf for sale. I would say that since the card isn't Direct-x compatible that is why you are returning it.

Most of the time they won't think twice about it.

Went out and bought the Audigy card. Ts works, so all is well.

Thanks again for all your help.
