Battlefield 1942 & Expansions Installer
Created by Nicole @ MoonGamers
Hey everyone,
I've put together a single installer that sets up Battlefield 1942, The Road to Rome and Secret Weapons of WWII on Windows 10 and 11. There's no more hunting for patches, fixes and missing Windows parts. Run it, click through, and you're ready to join us on the server.
>> Download the installer (about 1.9 GB) <<
What it does
- Installs BF1942 v1.61 with both expansions
- Checks your graphics card and picks the best graphics fix for it: DXVK by doitsujin on newer cards, or dgVoodoo2 by Dege on older ones
- Adds BF42++ by Casqade
- Adds 3D positional audio with DSOAL + OpenAL Soft by kcat
- Installs or repairs DirectX 9, the Visual C++ runtime and DirectPlay, but only if they're missing
- Keeps your existing CD key, or creates one if you don't have one
- Sets the game to your screen's native resolution and refresh rate
- Picks a font size to match your screen (you can change it)
- Adds shortcuts, including Battlefield 1942 - MoonGamers, which launches straight into our server
- Can skip the intro videos
Extras (choose "Custom" during setup)
- Battle of Britain - disable siren by Nicole @ MoonGamers: removes the air raid siren from Battle of Britain
- Borderless1942 by LANCommander: borderless window, so Alt-Tab doesn't minimize the game (64-bit Windows only)
- DataField42 by Ahrkylien: downloads missing maps and mods when you join a server
- Battlefield Rich Presence by Gametools Network: shows what you're playing in Discord (64-bit Windows only)
- Punkbuster42 by the BF1942 community: the anti-cheat some servers need
- Higher resolution UI by the BF1942 community: sharper menus and HUD
- Compatibility Profile by PCGamingWiki: only tick this if the game crashes without it
Font sizes: Original for 800x600 / 1024x768, 1x for 720p, 2x for 1080p (the default), 3x for 1440p, 3.5x for ultrawide 3440x1440 or 2560x1600, and 4x for 4K. Font RFAs by the BF1942 community.
How to install
- Download BF1942_Expansions_MoonGamers_Setup.exe (about 1.9 GB).
- If Windows says "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway. The installer isn't code-signed, so Windows shows this for any new download like it.
- Click Yes when Windows asks for permission, then click Next through the steps.
- Picked PunkBuster? A second window opens. Click Install/Repair, then close that window, and setup will finish.
- Play!
The default folder is C:\EA Games\Battlefield 1942. If you pick a different folder with Browse... or type one in, "EA Games\Battlefield 1942" is added to it right away, and the line under the box shows where the game will end up. For example, D:\Games becomes D:\Games\EA Games\Battlefield 1942.
Verify your download (optional, but recommended)
Every copy of the installer has a unique fingerprint, called a SHA-256 hash. If even one byte of the file is different (a broken download, or a file someone has tampered with), the hash is completely different. Checking it takes a few seconds and needs nothing extra, because Windows has the tool built in.
The genuine installer:
- File name: BF1942_Expansions_MoonGamers_Setup.exe
- Built with: Inno Setup 7.1.0, 17 September 2026
- Size: 1,870,950,471 bytes (Windows shows it as about 1.74 GB)
- SHA-256:
8A9354847ABE76A8EEF0576CF2433A5E16D007DC7E0C0498B6C4383C1C2E0E00
Step by step:
- Let the download finish completely. Don't check a file that is still downloading.
- Open PowerShell: press the Start button (or the Windows key), type PowerShell and click Windows PowerShell. You don't need to run it as administrator.
- Copy the line below, click in the PowerShell window, right-click to paste it (or press Ctrl + V) and press Enter:
(Get-FileHash "$env:USERPROFILE\Downloads\BF1942_Expansions_MoonGamers_Setup.exe" -Algorithm SHA256).Hash -eq "8A9354847ABE76A8EEF0576CF2433A5E16D007DC7E0C0498B6C4383C1C2E0E00"
PowerShell works out the hash of your file and compares it with the genuine one. This can take 5-20 seconds for a 2 GB file. Then it prints one word:
- True: your file is identical to the one I published. It's safe to install.
- False: your file is different. Delete it, download it again, and check again. If it still says False, don't run it, and let me know in this thread.
If it doesn't work:
- "Cannot find path ... because it does not exist": the file isn't in your Downloads folder, or it has a different name (for example BF1942_Expansions_MoonGamers_Setup (1).exe if you downloaded it twice). Change the part between the first pair of quotes to where the file really is, for example "D:\Games\BF1942_Expansions_MoonGamers_Setup.exe".
- Not sure where the file is? Type Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 followed by a space into PowerShell, drag the installer from File Explorer into the PowerShell window (this fills in its full path) and press Enter. PowerShell shows the file's hash under Hash. Compare it with the genuine hash above: every character must match. Upper and lower case don't matter.
- Want to see the hash and the size together? Run:
Get-Item "$env:USERPROFILE\Downloads\BF1942_Expansions_MoonGamers_Setup.exe" | Select-Object Name, Length, @{n='SHA256';e={(Get-FileHash $_.FullName -Algorithm SHA256).Hash}}Length must be 1870950471 and SHA256 must match the genuine hash above.
Uninstalling
Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find Battlefield 1942 & Expansions (MoonGamers) and click Uninstall. It removes everything the installer added, including the CD key if it created one. It leaves DirectX, Visual C++ and DirectPlay alone, because other games may use them. PunkBuster's background services are only removed if no other PunkBuster game is found on your PC.
Problems or feedback?
Post in this thread and let me know:
- Your Windows version and graphics card
- What went wrong, and any error message you saw
- If setup failed, attach the log file. Press Win + R, type %TEMP% and press Enter. The newest Setup Log file is the one you want.
Thanks to all the authors above for their work keeping this game alive. See you on the battlefield!
