Greetings MoonGamers.

Thought I'd hop in to say a quick hello. So then, hello!

I played BF1942 back in its golden age as player name Ðamascus in a clan called the Ironclad Empire, tagged :iCe:, with a server called ":iCe: House". We experienced the patches, expansions, and numerous mods together as they were rolled out. BF1942 remains my first love when it comes to PC multiplayer FPS games. Life eventually put gaming largely on hold and I've only recently been looking into something to fill my selective online time; something that is easy to hop into with little-to-no time commitment needed to grind/maintain progression. While I knew BF1942 could fit that bill perfectly, I was worried that it might be completely dead by this point. What a pleasant surprise to have come across the Steam Community post "How to Install and Play Battlefield 1942 (2026 Edition)" which got me back into the game in no time thanks to MoonGamers.

I hopped into Discord, got verified (thanks Lin!) and have hung out in there with WoolyBear a few times. I'm generally a US Central Time late night to early A.M. player. So far I like many of the mods done to the MoonGamers server. I really dislike bots and hardly ever saw them incorporated into multiplayer until this return, but I do recognize that they have become a sort of necessary evil at low population times.

Anywho, that's enough for now. See you on the battlefield.

Hey, Dwntrddn!

Welcome to the forum and the Moongamers '42 server. Saw you in game (kharkov) earlier this evening sporting an automatic weapon I believe. Great to have another old skool player hop in and run and gun with us!

Bots are one of those kinda polarizing elements; some folks like 'em, some despise them. I think they love to one shot headshot me... lol

Thanks for the introduction and see you in game ;)

Welcome. I am also surprised that this game is still active after all these years. When I started playing I was in middle school, and now I'm approaching 40.

I did a bit of research on :iCe: House and it seems it ran a lot of Secret Weapons and mods. We do host the Secret Weapons and Road to Rome expansions some Sundays (used to be every Sunday, I think it depends on the population these days) and there are a few communities that host other mods like Galactic Conquest and IS82 - see the #bf1942-mods channel in Discord.

A fair number of old school players still pop in quite regularly so you might recognize some names...

Why hello, Landing Deductions. You've landed plenty of lead into my body, thus deducting tickets from my team. Looking forward to seeing you out there again!

And you got that right about bots. They are sometimes good for a laugh, and we all need a little levity during digital war. One of my main frustrations with bots is that they frequently take the fun out of hoofing it on foot in a sneaky fashion just about anywhere on a relatively open map. It is very often cut short in a single shot suddenly and without warning from a bot sniper I never see or hear. A human doing that to me is at least likely to receive a tipping of my hat. But hey, I guess they are good for padding our scores and bleeding down enemy tickets faster. cow.gif

Hello Wasabi! Nostalgia is quite a strong force and is nice to be able to indulge in without needing to first round up and coordinate an ad hoc group session.

The BF1942 total-conversion mods that we got into the most were definitely Forgotten Hope, Desert Combat, and BattleGroup42.

Many :iCe: members ran BF1942 with the re-skin/re-audio mod called Merciless Creations 1942, which I've again been using almost exclusively in my sessions on MoonGamers along with some Hi-Def Remaster packs. They've certainly helped give the original game's appearance and immersion a bit of a boost, when I can get them working properly.

Anywho, thank you for the warm welcome and take care folks.
